Hello UG xD

i'll start with some background info on my dad so you can help decide . my dad played classic guitar when he was about 8 till he was about 13 and was never allowed to play the music he wanted to play, which is 60s and 70s music if im not mistakenxD, which made him stop because he actually started hating it, but recently he went with me when i bought my new guitar, while we where in the shop i went away for a few minutes and when i came back i saw my dad sitting with a guitar in his lap, headphones on and a big old happy faic which made me think about all that. so today at dinner i asked him if he would like to play again or atleast learn to play, his reaction was that he'd like to but would not have a lot of time (he runs his own business) but he would like to just hammer away at a guitar sometimes.

so now the big question, what kind of guitar would suit him? mind you i have a bit of a budget although my mom says she will help out with the money to. like i said i think he'll be mainly playing 60-70ish style music.

long story short: my dad needs a guitar that suits 60-70s style music and an amp that can do that to.

thnx in advance and sorry about the wall of text.

I'm thinking a Fender MIM Tele/Strat would be perfect.
AMP:
5150 combo
GSP1101 + Tech 21 PE60

GUITARS:
ESP LTD M-255 w/ SD Full Shred
Kramer Vanguard w/ JE-1000 active preamp
Douglas WF-150sn w/ GFS "Hot Lead" set

EFFECTS:
Bos SD-1 (boost)
AMT DT-2

I wouldn't say an SG or LP just because the strat/blackheart combo really gives you that classic feel/tone

Fender MIM strat or tele would definitely suit the style. With that I'd go for a used small tube amp (like a Laney VC-15, perhaps) or a modelling amp like a Roland Cube.

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-Plain-Top?sku=517413 if you go used you can get this for 300

you should be able to get the EVJ for about 1 150

and what do you mean an LP or SG isn't classic rock?!

did i say that it wasnt?

so the general ruling is a fender MIM with either the cube (which i have myself) or a blackheart i'll see if i can manage it with the money i've got

I didn't say that it wasn't good for classic rock. Just IMO the strat sounds better for it.

Definitely agree with the MIM strat.
I'm Joel. I play guitar. I am a student. I look at the cost of tuition, not in a dollar value, but in the guitars I'm sacrificing now, to be able to buy later.

i'll be looking into the MIMs then

i'd go for a 5W valve combo I.E. fender champ 600, blackheart little giant, epiphone valve junior and Gretch do a one but i cant remember its name off hand

as for guitars you cant go wrong with a MIM fender as said
Get off this damn forum and play your damn guitar.
