Use whatever tuning you want. But a lot of metalcore bands use Drop D or Drop C tuning

drop C for bass doesn't really work, it makes it way to loose I would go drop D.

are you too much of a tool to just play what you want in what tuning you want that sounds good to you?

It's a bit blunt but...

You could work out which tuning would allow you to play the songs easier. But obviously if you need a low D or C tune to the drop tuning that's needed!

Drop C is a pain the ass to tune and pretty redundant on a bass guitar, drop D is good if only to fit in with your guitarist.
It really depends on your playing style, if you play lots of rootnotes I suggest getting a five string but if you play proper basslines then the tuning doesnt really matter.

I Play in BEAD when i use a four string, and our guitarists tune down to B. but that's just me

Simply tune as high as you can until the strings break off...

Voila, you have a bass guitar ready for the harsh worlds of metalcore.

Nonsense my band plays in drop Cb and I tune to it.

You mean drop B, right?

TS, the three most common tunings for metalcore are Drop D, Drop C, and Drop B. I also know of bands that use 7 string guitars and drop their low B to an A. If your guitarists use 7 strings, get a 5er and drop your B to an A. Those are my suggestions.

Are you suggesting from high to low or low to high? Tuning in 5ths would be insane. I'm sure it would have a very unique sound, too.

Aren't basses tuned in 5ths already? It's just backwards. And yes, that would be crazy.

Cb is B. It's not a whole new note it's just an uncommon way to say B.

To not be ignorant to the original post-
I would say play whatever your band plays. And use some of the thicker strings

Maybe just go ahead and get a stand up bass. Paint it death-colored. Wow everyone.

I thought Cb=B#? Or is that only on certain scales?
#32
There's only a half step between B and C. Cb is always B, just as Fb is always E and so on.

TS, I always thought Drop C is ideal for metalcore, just the right amount of lowness to be br00t4l, but not to the point you'll sound like Waking the Cadaver or (insert other ****ty deathcore band here).

Nah, we're tuned in straight 4ths. GDAE is violin/mandolin tuning.

but it's the same intervals, just backwards. does that magically make the 5ths into 4ths?

Yes, I should study up on my theory more.

Extreme example. If you want to from a C up to a D, it is only 2 semitones, so is a minor second. If you want to go from a D UP to a C, you have to go up 10 semitones, which is a minor 7th.

Yes direction matters. A bass is tuned in 4th because there is a perfect 4th between the strings (in number of semitones). The actual positions in various scales doesn't matter.
