I just got my XXX combo yesterday, and noticed that it is much brighter than i had expected. So today i popped out the tubes and saw that the original owner has old Fender 12AT7's in along with JJ KT77's.

Im fine with the JJ KT77, but the fender tubes? I know the XXX is a bright amp, but it's a bit too bright as i want to darken it up.

What should i replace them with, Tungsol 12AX7's or Electro-Harmonix 12AX7's?

Schecter Syn Std. * modded, scalloped, and worn*
Schecter C-1 Elite *still sexy*

If you want darker, Tung-Sols probably aren't the way to go, EHs are probably what the Fender tubes are that are in it right now, maybe Sovteks.

Put some JJs in it, that will darken it up quite a bit.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

I have the Super 40 combo. I put the JJ high gain set in mine from Eurotubes (I think), and it darkened up the sound compared to stock. The tube change made a noticeable positive difference in my sound.
