random quote from fender guy at NAMM show :

"you can buy a mexican fender made by mexicans in mexico, or you can buy an american fender made by mexicans in america".

they are the same as far as just about everything, 3-5 piece ****ty quality wood, 1/8'' thick paint jobs, etc. they throw different pickups in them, they are the SAME Quality pickups, just different names on them.

Yeah, I noticed when I played a mexican Tele in the GC the other day, it played just as well as most of the U.S.A. Tele's in there.

The 'LP' doesn't stand for Les Paul,

ya pretty much they are the same...but i have heard that the "quality" of the wood of the american ones is better (???) ...but i do notice that they have a little nicer sound...also the neck finish is usually better on the american ones but you can always find a mexican one with a nice neck finish.
#6
I would think the wood, p-up QUALITY, and electronics would be better. ALong with everything else.
#7
so it would be a better idea to make my mexican strat into a relic replica rather than buy a new american then so on

i agree to when i played it the other day. i think its the idea in your head when ur playing it. your mind thinks it sound better cause the sticker is three times more. really it comes down to, if u gave gilmour a mexican strat he would make it sound like a 5000 guitar

^ this.

It always astounds me when people start talking about gear as if it has the power to make the player. You could become the greatest guitarist the world has ever known playing a Squire and an MG, but if companies told you that you'd be less likely to buy their high priced products...it's a joke, if you ask me. Like joecerillo said, it's all player.

On another note, I have the Mexican strat and it plays and sounds great, just as easy to play and nearly as crisp sounding as a US strat.

Isn't it Lesbian Pride or something, cause lesbos are hot?

So, are MIA Fenders really that bad?

Diffrent types of wood.
diffrent pickups.
Mexicos Trees are tropical and can produce diffrent tones from american wood.
but then again american guitar companys use diffrent types of wood from all over the world.

really theres no diffrence.

MIA fenders are great guitars, but for half th eprice you can get the same great guitar with a different thing printed on the headstock (using the exact same machine used in the american shops even)

Pretty much.

For me, there isn't a discernible difference in quality or playability (provided that they have/had a proper setup) - not enough to justify price difference.

Not a whole lot. It's just marked upmore and hyped up more because it has "Made in America" on it. The mex and the usa are pretty much the same save slightly better pick ups and wiring which is retarded because you can easily upgrade those parts.

So yeah, you are paying an extra $500 for some black paint on the head stock that says "Made in America".

No wonder things like Guitar Hero are so popular now days....
