Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

the XXX has a brighter metal tone as opposed to he 6505 having as darker fizzy tone.

also the XXX is more versatile with 3 channels and very nice cleans

^ spot on...I think the 6505 is a little heavier, a little more umph to it's tone.

6505 is dark, XXX is bright.
XXX's cleans are slightly nicer... but not nice enough (for me) to buy it when you consider the difference in the lead channel. Lead on the XXX is too bright for my taste.

XXX has a smoother lead sound. 6505 is the thrash metaller's favourite, although being that it was designed in conjunction with EVH it can do old school rock passably.

ive never played a 6505, but comparing to a 5150 i preferred the tones i could get out of the xxx. its got that more modern high gain tone in my oppinion, and u can get a really crunchy tight tone out of it. good for **** with a lots of triple picking and what not, in my oppinion anyways.

although i think the clean channel is disgustingly bad on both amps.

^ The cleans on the triple x are very decent if biased corectly, no fender but very useable, thats the problem with the 5150's they are biased way to cold from the factory, but since they are fixed bias you have to swap out resistors to change the bias, a 5150 with the a bias mod cleans are actually pretty decent. The Triple XXX bias is adjustable.

the xxx has better porn.
the 6505 has more distortion
the xxx has nicer cleans

Not really enough more to be a valid reason.

they both have about the same level of gain, they're just voiced differently ^
