I was looking at these two and was wondering is it worth the $100 difference for the 45w difference + a usb port on the 75w against the 30w? My sound card has a MIDI in and out with the both amps have, so is it worth getting it the 75w over the 30w then? (I mainly play at home, but want something that is loud but not loud enough to pop my ears).

The 30W will get loud enough for home use.
If you really want to play through your computer, get the 75W. Otherwise, it's not worth the difference.

... Well, there you go.

Home play - 30w

Gigging/practice - 70w

And gigging with a modelling amp is not clever.

Hence, I suggest the 30W.

how do people rate the vypyrs better than a dsl401? The valve ones anyway

I was looking at the forum site for peavey and they said to update the 30w you will need a midi to usb (can I still use this cable as if I have a usb port on the amp like the 70w)?

Good, good. God forbid people should start gigging with Spiders.

30W has all the features you need and none of the pointless ones I.E. USB functionality.
Make sure to get the Sanpera II. Not mandatory, but otherwise you're missing out on half the features.

Some people do....

Sadly.

Remember kids - only you can prevent kids from playing live with Line 6 gear.

Actual went down to GC and looked at the 15 w too, and I think I am leaning towards the 15 or 30 now.
#15
I can say with all honesty the 75 is overkill. I bought it mainly because I wanted the USB connectivity but this thing is stupid loud. The 15 or 30 are plenty for bedroom practice. I'd say you could even gig with the 30, it's insanely loud also.
#16
the 75w seems MUCH louder than an average 75w SS.

The 30 seems like the way to go
Peavey XXX combo *upgraded screen resistors, Tung-Sol's, and 6L6's*
Schecter Syn Std. * modded, scalloped, and worn*
Schecter C-1 Elite *still sexy*
Ibanez AEL 12-string

The 30 is the way to go. It has the extra stompbox effects and you can use the Sanpera pedals with the 30 and up but not the 15. I also like the 12 inch speaker better than the 8 inch in the 15.

hey I'm considering getting the 30 and I'm looking at pictures online and I'm a bit confused because I don't see settings for stuff like bass and treble. is there a way to control that or am I just missing something?

The only reason to get the 15 is if you want something small and light to carry around. I took the speaker and baffle board out of my 15 and put a new board in with a 10" speaker. It sounds pretty killer for a small amp, and it's real totable.

its much better to gig with a line 6 spider amp then it is to not gig at all.

Sure, you CAN gig with a Spider. You can work a plane's yoke with your feet too - doesn't mean it's a good idea.
