I regurally play guitar at a contemporary worship service service at my church with 4 other teenagers my age. 2 of the others are also guitarists in the band, but both have somewhat mediocre skills based on how long they've been playing. for this coming service this sunday, i would like to present a solo into one of the songs we're doing and i was just wondering how exactly to identify the key of a song (in plain english) and what scales to use with those keys (again, plain english). i have basic knowledge of the fingerings of a few scales such as the pentatonic major and minor scales, and blues scales (based off of http://www.chordbook.com/guitarscales.php , is this site legit?) and was just wondering how exactly to apply scales to songs like this. much help appreciated.

ps- the song i most wanted to apply a solo to is Whatever You're Doing, found here http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/s/sanctus_real/whatever_youre_doing_crd.htm#comments

ps(s)- the part of the song is this line:

C G Am F
Something heavenly...

^dont know what it did to alignment, but the C starts at the "ly" of heavenly
