You do realise, that the red "X" and popup IS the spyware, right? Don't follow the instructions, let Ad-Aware do its thing...
#3
Delete all your registry keys.

There are like 50 threads on this thing.

Damn dude, you're ****ed.
nothing you can do. your computer, might as well get a new one. all your **** on your computer? it's already gone.
#7
yes i realized that already when i first saw it
it came off as an advertisement upon reading
i want to make sure that its only spyware though
and not a full virus

If you need it, here's another good antispyware program: http://www.spybot.com/en/download/index.html

This. And ignore the guy saying you're fawked.
Also, stop using Internet Explorer and download Firefox, and get the NoScript and AdBlock add-ons. You won't ever see another ad again..

Cheers

yeah spybot should clear it up pretty quickly, I got that years ago and have never had a spyware problem since, also make sure you get teatimer, that's very very useful.

I suggest doing a Windows System Restore. Those usually work for me.

This might work too.

is MRU a bad thing
should i delete it
i deleted a trojan and a bunch of cookies but the popup is still there

^ You can delete MRU, it's nothing important. Just "most recently used" lists of programs run on your pc.
If Ad-Aware can't find it, try SpyBot. If that doesn't work, System Restore. Still not working, "safe startup" (don't know if it's translated like that..) and SpyBot.

ad aware found 2 trojans and a bunch of cookies
i deleted all of it including the MRU files
but thats all it found on the quick sweep

im running a full sweep now
and i might DL spybot, although spybot doesnt work that well compared to ad aware

also, to the FF question, my comp doesnt like Firefox, b/c for some reaason it takes up more ram than IE

my virus scan hasnt got anything yet

and i DEFINITELY DO NOT want to system restore. i refuse to delete all my ****

also, i deleted a registry key that was infected with a trojan

System restore doesn't delete anything, it just repairs the registry to the way it was on a certain date ("restoration point").. No problem there! It's not the same as formatting your pc..

What did, then?

I had another worm in my computer, which I'm 99% sure came from that. I ended up reinstalling windows completely. That was a hell of a day.

system restore doesn't delete anything unless you don't have enough restore points to go far enough back to fix the problem.

ive never backed up system restore points mainly cause i didnt bother with it
im usually VERY careful when it comes to avoiding infection
iv had this comp for over four years and never had a virus or spyware til now

Windows does it automatically unless you specifically tell it not to...

That you knew about.

Windows makes restore points for you every few days or so.

i check the scan logs regularly
so it would have came up eventually

also what change would it make if i went to a restore point a few days back
(i think i tried this on my other comp with the same problem and it didnt do anything)

EDIT: partway through the full ad aware scan and its found 11 more infections
i got hit pretty hard for one night

it depends on how long you've had the malware on your computer. if you just got it today it should get rid of it.

The idea is to go to a point before you had the problem. It doesn't work for everything though, and it didn't get rid of this thing for me.
#29
^^ so why did you suggest it then??
im just scan the **** out of my comp tonight

lol im probably gonna get spybot also
just to make sure

i use this comp for school and not having WILL kill me
