Specifically, can they be played through a normal guitar amp? Also, if I play it through a guitar amp and turn the gain up what happens?

So I can essentially play one like a guitar? I was wondering if I did that whether I'd get more feedback or something else.

im not trying to bring down your musical opinions, everyone is allowed to have their own opinion, but why would you use a distorted mandolin?
