Oi Oi!

I'm a "Budding" musician and am sick of talking music with the other local musicians as I don't really fit in.

Gimme some chat! Opinions/Bands/Gear/Playing style etc.

It'd be nice to get in contact with lotsa different types of music fan!

If I list my top favourite bands it may help. I'm OK for criticism too.

The Beatles
George Harrison
Aerosmith
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Led Zeppelin
The Who
The White Stripes
The Raconteurs
The Ramones
Van Halen
Nirvana

That's my main ones I like, but i also like others!

I'm also a guitarist primarily. I used to play Bass in a band and drums in another, and used to sing in another so I've done a lot of stuff! But i'm interested in talking to musicians from other places.

I live in Orkney, which is the north of Scotland so the scene here is real limited.

Anyway...

My name is Tom. I am only 13 but have been playing since I was 9. I have a band with my friends, and I am probably in between intermediate and advanced for my playing level. I play and write punk rock, and listen to a lot of it. My favorite band is NOFX, and I play an Epiphone SG through a Marshall MG Half-stack (which everyone seems to hate, but I love.)

really I just think the second was just so musically tight, but both are amazing. And on your list you said Zeppelin, do like their earlier or later stuff better. Personally Led Zeppelin I and Led Zeppelin II are my favorites.

I knew a guy once who liked Machine Head. But he was a complete Wanker. I'm sure that doesn't apply here though.

I knew a NOFX fan who played through the same setup, perhaps it's good to get the kinda "punkish" tone you like

First four Zep albums are Untouchable! My favourite is LZ III

I like a few choice numbers from their latter career but it's not as solid.

Jimmy Page is god though!

I liked some Metallica a few years ago, but had a mate who rammed it down my throat and put me off.
I have another mate who likes Pink Floyd, good band!
Not heard too much Tool
AC/DC is like a second religion up here, but i've never been too much of a fan
Journey is good party music "DON'T STOP BELIEVIN!"
The Mighty Zep is a big fave of mine
Not heard too much Pantera
I'm Orkney's biggest Beatles fan so that's a common ground
And Iron Maiden I also haven't heard too much of, but it's kind of OK

Do you play?

My name's Clifford. Been playing for at least 4 years now.
Mostly electric guitar, but I will get back into classical guitar when I've got a new one. (Or maybe a Ukulele!)

I get my playing styles from:
Katatonia
Justin Broadrick
Stephen O'Malley
Funeral For A Friend
Fall Of Troy
Wes Montgomery
Meshuggah
Burzum
Deftones
Coldplay
Slayer
Devourment

I'll listen to anything - Influenced by anything.

Hur Hur, some of that stuff on that list is far too "young" for me (which is weird seeing as i'm 22)

Classical guitar eh? Sounds cool! How old are you?

I'm not exactly "introducing myself" as trying to start a mass conversation. Gone are the days where forums were a place to meet new people and have a laugh with hte outside world. I'm trying to get an "old skool" vibe to the proceedings.

I appreciate the linking and am hoping I won't get closed
