So at my school we had Photoshop 7.0 which i liked a lot and really learned to use. Now you may know that there are A LOT of different kinds of photoshops and i need your help.

I like all the features of 7.0 but i was wondering is it worth it to get a higher one even if i felt 7.0 was adequate enough? Also, do any of the lower versions do pretty much the same thing for cheaper?

I dont want to spend over $250, got any suggestions?

To be honest, unless you're going to use it professionally, you might as well stick with a cracked version of PS7.

Why would you want to use 6 year old software?

because its $500 less and works the same as when it was new. Would you buy a never used guitar that was made 6 years ago for $500 less than it originally cost?

Do you know much about photoshop elements? It's considerably cheaper.

PS elements 5 has a terrible interface, we had it at college at it was awful. I wouldn't to be honest.

There are rules here at ug against using stolen software. See the pinned rules thread at the top.

I personally use PS7 on my laptop and CS2 on my desktop for my videos. There isn't much difference beteen them. Elements is good but has a strange layout. They all do the same thing. Keep an eye on slickdeals.net and closing office stores for good deals, thats how I got CS2.

when you say strange do you mean bad? What makes elements $100 less than PS7? I dont want to download it, i want to buy it. I dont want anything more than ps7 unless its really worth it but i want to see if the lower ones are pretty equal for cheaper. Always on the lookout for a good deal.

The first, second, and third times I downloaded a cracked anthing, I wound up with new HDD shaped paperweights.

Fuck that.

You're doing it wrong.

As long as you have the proper protection, you should be fine. Always scan everything you download. Also, always check your sources. Look for places where there are comments and reviews of the files. I've never bricked a hard drive before, and I download lots of stuff.

just get it from limewire. CS2 and above are all pretty much the same.

Gimp sucks horridly, **** that

it only sucks if you suck.

I know many professionals who use Gimp and even MS Paint and compete with Photoshop users.

you just gotta know your program.

Limewire is a virus festival.

CS2 if i remember rightly isn't an intel native application so you have to run it via rosetta which is teh slowzord..

GIMP is free so you cant expect much..

CS4 is mega new so I doubt there are cracks built yet..

CS2 was always good enough for me. I got CS3 when my uni upgraded all their software, as there are backwards compatibility problems, but otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

However, I don't think I could go back to PS7 unless I really had no choice.

IMO if you are paying and not using it for anything other than mucking around with, stay with PS7. If you are getting hold of it by other means, or using it for a degree or career, get CS2/3
Now 100% humour free, in accordance with the rules.

my understanding is that photoshop cs' are for pros with businesses and graphics artists and marketing and stuff.
Elements is simpler, it doesnt have all the stuff needed for printing. Its for the person who wants to make their pictures better.

Downloading the trails off of the Adobe site, then getting the registration code is even better!

pretty much, Elements is also a lot easier to use if you are new to raster editing.
