I was wondering, if it's possible to use a cheap tube mic preamp as a clean boost for a tube amp?
I'd use it just like a tubescreamer or any other OD/boost.
The amp will be a crate v50.

Is it possible/will it sound good?

Or will the output be too high? (it's supposed to be line level, right?)

Or maybe the impedance will be wildly mismatched?

There are some really cheap tube mic preamps on MF... (though i guess the tube isn't used to it's full potential...)

Thanks.

Yeah, I've actually heard of quite a few people using that ART preamp with an amp. Not quite sure how, but apparently it works haha.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Well, if there's no chance of damaging the amp, i might try it!

The preamp only costs $30, cheaper than any OD pedal i know...

Thanks.

I guess i'll wait for more opinions. Or tragic stories of innocent amps being blown to pieces...that'd be cool.
