For my A Level Product Design Project I am designing a chair, specifically designed for guitarists. With special features to make playing easier. For example a foot rest, plectrum holder, guitar stand and cable tidy.

For my research I am asking if anyone has any ideas or prefrences to what they would find usefull in a guitarist's chair. Thanks.

LOL. I wasn't expecting that.

I would say you should not include arms on this chair.

On the armrest, have it dipped so allow elbows room to rest on the picking arm.

Will post more answers when I sit in a chair with my guitar next.

Hi-tech FTW:

How about a digital display that pops up once the user sits down and asks whether the wants to check guitar tabs, waste time in the pit or just fa...

anyway,i think it should be armless, could have variated positions and a socket connected to transformer maybe,to connect footswitches?

Maybe a metronome, and on the account of that, speakers?

What a stupid idea for a product design product, surely you must realise nobody would buy that? That is far too specific a use for a chair. Nobody would buy something as large and (with all those features, and being a specialist product) expensive as that just for playing guitar in.

You can do all the market research you want asking for ideas as to what to put on it, but you should try researching who would actually (and i mean really REALLY honestly) buy that.
#17
Basically, You need a chair about 60cm off the ground, very wide tractor style seat, with a back, maybe have most of it adjustable too.
Arms that can be folded down or something would be a nice feature.

Also, it's for musicians, so have a holder for mugs of tea, cans of beer, and joints.
#19
I don't suppose you have any access to CAD packages?
I'd say a chair, four legs, no arm rests, with two panels glued to the side legs, so that the sides of the chair are partially connected. Then, mount your stuff on those two panels.

Thanks for the help (mabye not so for MadClownDisease), i'll take these ideas into account (bar the dildo and fap machine) lol

Haha well disregard me if you want but face it, I raise a valid point. Sorry if i was slightly rude about it, but if you're doing market research you can't just skip the stage of "is this product actually a good idea?" and go straight onto "what should my product have?".

Honestly honestly if you went into a shop and there was a "guitar chair" with all these gimmicky features at a price that must realistically be around £100 would you consider it?

Jesus Christ, calm down.
It's a design product, not Dragon's Den. It isn't designed to be going on sale in Argos in time for Christmas. If anything I think it's a perfect idea for a design project since it incorporates the uses of mental and physical skill.
I hope it doesn't seem, like I'm young, foolish, and green.

No i know that but will he get good credit for a fundamentally flawed product? Parts of making a new product are considering you market and price etc and if he looked at this he would see it is not a profitable product.
I mean, TS: have you considered your demographic? Age, income, etc?

I'm sorry but for a product concept (especially at A level) this is flawed.

This isn't the same at all as saying bass is a stupid product. For one, bass is a product already with a large established market, and entry level basses would be available for pretty cheap. This product, even a basic one, would cost a good amount. further to that, a basic entry level "guitar chair" would be essentially... well essentially what I am sitting on now. A low comfortable chair with no arms. Put a box in front to rest my feet on, rest plectrums on a nearby table... A very simple substitute for practically nothing.
You can say at least one idiot would buy one, but would YOU? UG would be a good representation of the key market how many of us could afford a specifically built product like that?

Also bass serves an uncovered purpose among other stringed rock instruments, whereas a chair is... well a chair.

Yeah sorry I did sound over aggressive there but read my other posts. A decent product needs to be able to stand up to Dragon's Den type criticism. They say no to products on that programme for a reason.

Lol some good points there. The thing is that I won't be selling it - it's just a school project and it deffinately won't cost £100 to make. It shouldn't cost more than £50 to make. And we don't have to do anything about marketing.

I agree with foldable arm rests. They're comfy to use but they often get in the way of your guitar and you end up with scratches and dents and stuff when you forget they're there. FOLDABLE ARM RESTS!
