Well I'll be getting a electric guitar this christmas and I'd like to get into it as soon as possible. Where is a good place to learn how play(Like chords ect) and what are some easier songs to play the tabs for. I'd like to play rock/metal songs, so I'd prefer any suggested songs to be of those genre's.
Thanks for any help

I wouldn't worry about songs just yet, half the time you'll be putting a lot of pressure on yourself to try and learn something. Even something like Smells Like Teen Spirit can be hard for the beginning guitarist, because stretching your fingers to do powerchords, especially if you have small hands, can be quite annoying. Not to mention that you'll start to worry about your tone, which isn't good for a new guitarist, as you won't find a decent one with a starter rig and it'll put you off. Almost happened to me. Leave songs until you've got the basics down quite well, I think it would be the best option.

Maybe just learn the pentatonics, major and minor scales, basic chords and all that stuff. You should find all this stuff here:

Something I forgot to ask, do you think I'll be able to learn to play well without going to Lessons and ect? I mean just learn chords and play tabs to get better?

This is one of the best sites I have found so far...heck, I wish I would have found it sooner to be honest. http://www.justinguitar.com/index.php

Great site that shows how to play chords, and all the basics, as well as step-by-step info on how to play songs, with video instructions as well. Very well made site.

It is possible to self learning guitar but you will still need a friend or 2 who knows how to play so that you can watch them do it the "right way" (varies), and they can also point out your mistakes and hand/arm positions so that you dont get into bad habits, which you could hurt yourself in the long run.

Yeah, you'll be just fine. It would be better if you had lessons though because if you have things that you don't understand then you can ask your teacher. Kinda hard to do without a teacher when your self-taught. But yeah, you can get the same information from websites and stuff so good luck with that
