yeah, and we signed Shaun Berrigan last year. By far our best player. Hopefully we won't waste this season away.

NRL is still light-years ahead anyway. :/

Shannon Hegarty signs with Cowboys

A day after being released by South Sydney, former Queensland Origin utility Shannon Hegarty has been snapped up by the North Queensland Cowboys on a one-year deal.

Mackay-bred Hegarty, 29, is a veteran of 168 NRL games but he only played 59 times for the Rabbitohs after moving from the Sydney Roosters in 2004.

He had been contracted to South Sydney until the end of the upcoming season however both parties reached an agreement for a release on Thursday.

The Cowboys said Hegarty - a veteran of three Origins and another three Tests - was keen to go "back to his roots" after playing his junior football in north Queensland.

"A player of Shannon's experience and ability will be a valuable asset to the club," Cowboys CEO Peter Parr said.

Broncos happy with Hodges' progress

As the Broncos count down to Justin Hodges' return from a leave of absence, Brisbane boss Bruno Cullen says the NRL club is "very relaxed and happy" with the Test centre's progress.

Hodges will return to the Broncos on Monday after being granted a six-week sabbatical to deal with "private personal issues".

The personal leave came after Hodges began rehabilitation following a right shoulder reconstruction.

"His issues are personal and he has dealt with those," Cullen said at Brisbane on Friday

Referee Klein confirmed for NRL season

Controversial World Cup final referee Ashley Klein has been confirmed to officiate in this year's NRL premiership.

Klein, who had a well-publicised run-in with former Australia coach Ricky Stuart at a Brisbane hotel after the Kangaroos' shock loss to New Zealand, has accepted an offer to join the NRL's full-time squad of referees after spending the past six seasons in the English Super League.

"To be given the chance to referee in the NRL is a dream for me and I can't wait to get to Australia and begin training with the other officials," Klein said in a statement.

"It's a great challenge for me, especially with the two-referee system in place for this year, and it is one I am looking forward to."

Referees boss Robert Finch welcomed Klein into the NRL ranks.

"Ashley is a great addition to our team and adds depth and experience to our full-time squad," Finch said.

Klein will join the NRL referees squad in the ne
xt few weeks.

Ok, well what's his best possition?

Fullback?

nah, he played in the centres, or maybe on the wing once or twice. He's not a fullback.

Looking forward to the bulldogs new side,

Although I'm a strong Sydney Roosters fan, i would love to see the Dogs get out of there slump, and start to play the footy that we know they can.

Hopefully for their sakes, Kimmorley is the man that can bring some change.

It's failing because the NRL season is over, even the world cup, which failed as much as this thread.

Bulldogs will destroy you in '09.

Are you kidding? We have Ennis, those dragons guys, and that other guy I forgot the name of. All great buys, TAB puts us in the top 4, and as if Dragons will make minor premiership, now without Gasnier! You must be smoking something strong.

I disagree, Bulldogs have snapped up some quality players,

Ben Hannant,Michael Ennis,Brett Kimmorley

They however, will most likely lose their first two Trail Matches

Bulldogs < Dragons

Bulldogs < Raiders

And then again, most likely there next match against Manly.

What team do you go for?
LETS GO BRONCOS

What are the odds for your team in the 09 Season?
meh average

Manly, do you think they can win next season? If so, why, If not, why?
NO, they are going to be lacking without beaver. PERIOD.

What is your favourite player in your club?
locky

What suggestions would you make for the NRL?
I think they should **** tony archer off cause hes a fag, and teamist against broncos.

ohh this is NRL not post random bs about english prem league
#22
mayb bit early for the thread?? anyways its obvious the grand final will be broncos vs cowboys, with darren lockyer kicking the winning feild goal in the 121st minute, tigers will get wooden spoon, wayne benett will will trip whilst boarding a plane to brisbane, severely damaging his leg.
#23
the knights will absoultely kill it, we beat everyone decent, but werent consistent, kurt gidley captain, and yer, its an easy question, manly really will struggle without beaver, i thought losing bk would have hurt them more, but beaves is one of the best ever. i hope he stays involved somehow, i love the beaver

At first I didn't see why it was funny, then I realised that your probably not familiar with Australian towns. Manly is a place.

The thought of the Sharks actually having a decent half is a bit scary, but then again I quote Jack Gibson "Waiting for Cronulla to win a premiership is like leaving the porch light on for Harold Holt."

I did. And as a Queenslander washed up in New Zealand, I was supporting the Kiwis as I wanted to see an upset. I got very, very drunk that night.
