yeah it really is just as simple as practice, i used to have the same problem, at the start i was concious of the strumming while i was singing but then it just comes naturally so dont worry about it

Well, I can't sing at all or really play guitar with anything you could call skill. You're already beating me. Congrats.

Talk when you play guitar
and play guitar when you do whatever

play guitar and watch TV or something

once you detach your brain from the guitar, you can do other things
such as talk, look, listen, etc.

this will most likely inhibit your ability to ad-lib very complicated things
but when do you do that while singing?

but yeah
do this post

John Entwistle once in a while. I had to try to find him when I saw The Who two years ago.

I used to have that problem. What I did was simplify the rhythm (witch was easy to do cause I was using Knockin on Heavens Door) then gradualy built up to the point where i could just get more complicated. Oh and dont really worry about being the exact same every time just get the just of it.

Start with playing easy strumming songs. You should be able to play the strumming off by heart, and then the singing can just be layered over that. If you don't know how to sing and play the guitar at the same time, your gonna have to perfect at least one of those aspects, so that you can.
I will soon perish from this lethal injection called love.

Try a song with a really simple melody. Maybe one that is the exact same of the guitar melody.

Sweet child of mine was the first i learned this with.

I had a similar problem when I first started playing piano when I was trying to make my 2 hands independant of each other...kinda the same principle..just practice

Some people do try despite their inability.

I mean, when I try to play the guitar, I'm like a 14 year old boy in a dark closet awkwardly making out with a drunk girl while clumsily trying to remove her clothes. I'm getting better though.

Not for me, and I'm Pete Townshend.

EDIT: I mean John Entwistle.

Anyway I don't know, I've never tried to play bass and sing at the same time.

Maybe he wishes to learn and practice with the help of this site?
People DO come here to learn about guitar you know, not just to discuss it.

Take two weeks off and then quit altogether.
