Alright, here's my entry. Pics of my neck GIANT PICTURE ALERT
Had this neck before, so I'm not counting it in my budget. If that's not cool with the competition, then I'll add it but it'll put me over budget.

pics of my wood (pun intended ) up soon

Wood comes from a tree I helped my Grandpa chop down when I was 11.

Just realized I forgot the plan and specs:

Ribbon-figured Sapele one-piece body
Grover tuners
Wilkinson Vintage Strat trem
GFS Dream 90 pickups

My current great idea is to wire this using the J-Bass wiring kit off StewMac. Two Master Volumes and a Tone so it can be blended. any reason why this won't work? I looked into it, seems like it'll work.

body plan (all templates from metalwarrior40's template thread):

good god damn, I can't wait until I have a job. I've got one lined up for the Holiday break and one waiting for me back at school after I'm done! hehe that means Jake is gonna start some eBaying and some building... but I'm not gonna publicly disclose that just yet...

I think one of your inlays escaped and is sitting in the background of your picture... o.o

oooooh. new builds! This one probably isn't moving too fast until christmas break. Then I get time to work on it.

also, that's nikki in the background. she is very loud.

EDIT: Yeah, it's a combo of the iceman, strat and humbucker routs. Thanks MW40! Hopeflly getting most of these parts for christmas as by themselves they're wayyyyyy over $180 CAD, even with Phil's discounts. Yay for christmas!

What a lovely neck and inlays.

A J - bass wiring kit should be fine.

Everyone one of the 100GBP Builds have something wonderful about them.
#13
I'm either going with Icecaster or Stratogoddess (my original inspiration was a combo of a Strat and a Minarik Goddess)

^ I'm an Icecaster in that Oblivion game.

Lol JK I use a dremora claymore.

Ahh, RPGs.

I think icecaster would be cool. Or he could call it the StratMan which has a 50's esque post war charm and happy ring to it.

Thread title edited to match the name: Icecaster it is! Also, bobby, if i get the blank, do you have a template for the j-bass pickguard?

J-bass pickguard blanks are impossible to find!

When you say blank, you mean with no spaces for pickups?

In all my years of bassing, i've never seen one in my life lol. Will you be using the control panel from a J bass aswell? Because you can also purchase a plate with 4 pots, and drill the input jack at the side of the guitar.
#23
i think i'm just gonna abandon the whole pickguard deallie altogether. :P I just remembered there was some cool birdseye maple at my grandpa's so i'll probably throw that on top and stain the whole guitar with some cherry stain i've got

SETBACK! I checked my wood today, because I was planning to glue it up and get started. IT'S F***ING WARPED!!! I guess i took too long and the wood got slightly damp and bowed.

Oh well, on the plus side, i now have some ash to build a cool table, and get to buy a body blank from LP. Also, parts are ordered! I got cash for christmas to order my parts with, since my family had no idea what to buy. and I got my wiring kit in my stocking.

LPaddict, check your PMs

It's only been 6 ****ing months and the only progress i've made has been, in order, getting very nice ash, finding out that warped, buying another one-piece body blank, finding out it's too ****ing wide for any planer i've ever seen, and finally having to pay to get it planed.

Don't know all the history, but some thoughts:
How wide a planer you looking for? Might be able to help you out.
Have you already thicknessed your ash? If not, you might be able to salvage it. You (I or someone else) could joint the wood to flatten one side, then plane the other side parallel.
Did you apply finish to both sides? I'm not a big proponent of the whole equilibration between sides thing, but with air-dried wood, ya never know.
If all else is lost, apply some water to the concave side. It could swell the grain enough to force the bow out.

Just some ideas.

I have to say that is an amazing shape for one fact, I'm surprised I've seen noone else try it.

I wish you luck and all that, can't wait to see it done.
I'd also say that a pickguard MIGHT work, but I think no pickguard would be better.
#39
^Well if he hard mounts the PUPs and just makes it to where the pickgaurd is not conected to them it works just fine.

Anyways BV hope this gets done before mine I need a neck cause I mutilated the only one I had today .........yes I slamed it against the ground cause it was beyond repair.
Hearing about a pair of great boobs is like hearing about a really cool bug or lizard as a kid and you just gotta see it.

I've decided on no pickguard. I think it'll just look too weird.

Body is at the planer's now, so updates should be soon!
