What do you think the definition of a chord is? Is it two or more notes OR three or more notes played together?

poll coming soon

Three or more different PITCHES, not just notes.

There's no need for a poll. That's the definite definition.

...modes and scales are still useless.

chord 1 |kôrd|
noun
a group of (typically three or more) notes sounded together, as a basis of harmony : the triumphal opening chords | a G major chord

Well. That pretty much concludes this thread. Thus, cue 12 pages of people disagreeing and arguing with a fucking dictionary.

Quick, someone post the definition of a power chord before I strikes back at us.

Power chord - A chord consisting of the first (root), fifth and eighth degree (octave) of the scale. Power chords are typically used in playing rock music.

There's no arguing any of this, folks. And don't say "the root and fifth" because that's not a chord. The same way CGCFAD isn't drop C, but everyone's so wrong about it that it just starts being the accepted term.

definitions are easily found through Google.

music theory questions belong in Musician Talk.

this thread does not belong in The Pit.
