I've got a left handed '78 black Les Paul custom. I want to change the pickups. The stock pickups just dont seem to cut it for me anymore. I want to get a live Pete Townsend type sound. Would Seymour Duncan SHPR-1 P-Rails give the sound I'm looking for? I want something a little less harsh than the stock pickups. Thanks.

What kind of amp do you have? You'll never sound like townshend without a big ol' hiwatt.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

No, I dont have hiwatt.(wish i did). I'm using a 50 watt marshall tube combo.

Ok, well, find out what Pete uses then get those. I can't be bothered to find out, but I'm guessing its a PAF of some sort.

He used sg's with p-90 pickups and les pauls with minihumbuckers. i dont think SD p-90's will fit in a les paul.thats why i asked about the SHPR-1 P-Rails.

There are places that make humbucker sized p90s that should fit in your guitar, I'd look into those.
