Hey guys, I just got this book and it is ****ing awesome!

But I have one question. The book has its own lesson plans, and int he first lesson there is an absolute shedload of chords to learn. My question is, is there any way to learn the shapes and positions other than just to play them over and over again starting on different root notes as the book suggests?
I assume the book is giving you shell forms that are moveable down the fretboard. The way I learned was to pick songs I knew and play all the chords using the shells I was learning. It gave it a purpose, and psychology proves that learning through associations with purpose is better than monotonous mechanical learning.
