I'm thinking of buying a Squier Vintage 60's jazz bass, but theres one thing that really bugs me about it and thats the thumb rest, or whatever it is.
I know its a really small thing but it ruins the look of the bass for me.

Is it really needed for anything?
And f i took it out, would there still a couple of little holes in the pickguard?
(btw this is my first post so please forgive me if i've put it in the wrong place or something )

Yeah it will leave the holes it's not a big deal but if it bothers you you need to buy a new pickguard.

Many Japanese Fender basses come with pickguards that have superfluous screw holes for all the accessories that have come with the bass in question throughout the years. I don't think the holes ruin the look at all.
