When you think about it, in the early 60s all the bands were in the village in New York City, and they'd play with each other and critique each other and the measuring stick for their music was each others music. Then they move out to LA in the mid 60s, then in the late 60s all the San Francisco bands pop up and they all play with each other and go to eachothers shows to see how to improve their music and take influence from their peers. Fast foward to the late 70's all the punk bands pop up at CBGB's and watch eachother, studying one another. Then in the late 80s all the Seattle grunge bands and alternative acts come into existence and and play with eachother yadda yadda. But there really is no place or crowd of bands that pop up nowadays. What do you think the problem is here?

too many bands with too many genres, it seems like now it's hard to relate one with another. because there's always those little differences that set each other apart. therefore nobody gathers in a specific area because of all the smaller areas where different genres, artist etc. are more popular

Yep. Thanks to instant telecommunication you don't need a "spot". Just get it online.

In a manner of speaking, the internet is the new "spot"

You guys don't realize that I was just being a dick. I mean regardless of the fact that there were great bands that didn't originate in America, they eventually came here. Name me a legendary band that never came to America, anyone.

Any legendary American band, they didn't have to come to America.

Basically you're only real hope for something like that these days is the internet.
There more than likely won't be a guy from a big record label at your favorite local venue, it's hard to do anything, you have to know somebody. It's not hard to know somebody though.

How do you figure that?

And to your first comment, you didn't seem to notice that I was responding to someone who said that I didn't realize theres great music outside of America. And I made a couple of wise cracks about it.

Because everyone with a PA system thinks their band is awesome.
So they all go out and put on rotten shows, and no one wants to make the mistake of going to a crappy show when they think it's going to be good.
I like Fall Out Boy.
That is all.
