okay so i want some kind of portable music player for xmas (only cos my parents insist on buying me something)
and i have seen these 2 that catch my eye

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-NWZ-S639FB-Video-Player-Tuner/dp/B001FB56PC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228159742&sr=1-1

or this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Apple-iPod-nano-8GB/dp/B001E97GEE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228159974&sr=1-2

they both seem good but which is best. both are from good companies.

iPod is always better, IMHO.

EDIT:

After actually looking at the product, and the thread, get the Sony.

It's in the price really.
iPod 8GB for £10 more than a 16GB .Mp3 player WITH a radio?
#10
get the sony.

DON'T sell out and get the ipod, sure it's more ''fashionable'' but as i always say to people ''function over fashion, not fashion over function... unless you're a gay.''

so yeh... get the sony, unless you're a gay lol
#11
in my experiencei have always had better luck with getting my ipod fixed than when my sony died. When the sony broke they told me to buy a new one, when my ipod broke they gave me a new one.

I'd go for the Apple if i was you.

I had a similar Sony and it packed up after a year!! And the Sony sonic stage programme is a bit crap.

plus everything is compatible with the ipod!

The Sony has a supreme method of navigation. Trust me on this.

they both have good and bad points. sony has twice as much memory but if sony **** around with their customers when the product breaks i might not bother. but the system seems in some ways better than the ipod nano. but apple products are usually good and there seems to be more stuff being developed for ipod than sony walkmans.

does the ipod work with windows media audio?

What are you on about?
My Sony is SOLID. No chance of it breaking.
Sometimes I push a pin into the reset button [some images get messed up], but that's only once or twice.
The Sony is the BETTER choice.

Seriously, why are you even considering the iPod. Why are you ignoring the entire thread's replies? Are you stupid or what?

iPods break a LOT. They are unreliable. They can fail easily. They are also relatively fragile compared to the Sony. And have less HDD space.

Seriously, go Sony.

All my advice is from experience.

i am trying to keep an open mind. i wont judge what to buy on the basis of only a few opinions. where i live everyone has an ipod nano usually and they say they work fine.

I hate Sony in general, largely due to their ****ty headphones, stereos, PC monitors, laptops and customer service so I'd get the Ipod without even considering the Sony, however there are a lot more MP3 players in your price range than just those 2. I'd definately look at Creative before deciding

ipod.

click wheel
widescreen
movies
pictures
itunes integration
sturdy
accelerometer
better customer service

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my iPod (It's actually the iPhone but whatever it still has an iPod on it) but from the specs, the Sony one looks better.

Get the Sony I have one kinda like that. Way better than Ipods you don't really need any special software for it and you can transfer songs from it to a computer.

15% of iPods will fail within one year of purchase.
I can only guess at the numbers after one year

I can't find a value for Sony, but owning/using many Sony [and iPod] MP3 products in my life, the iPod is more then 2x more likely to fail then the Sony (2 iPods failed in 2 years. No Sony mp3 products have failed on me ever in 5+ years (including a minidisc walkman).).
So, if I guess a value from the figures from the above, I'd say the Sony is 7.5% (really 3% if I do a quick calculation) likely to fail within one year. Although, this is only an 'educated' guess.

So, I'd go for Sony.

I'm doing my best to not sound like a fanboy here!
