not just yet. check the wiring first.

Invader Jim mentioned Lug 1 on the volume control. this is very important.
unlike a tone control, the volume control must have all 3 wires connected for it to work properly.
on a guitar with a single volume control, Lug 3 will be connected to the pickup switch.
Lug 2 will be connected to the output jack.
if Lug 1 is not connected, you will get the symptoms you described.
make certain Lug 1 is connected to ground, along with the sleeve connection of the output jack and the common connection of all the pickups.

IF you have this connection made and still have the same symptoms, THEN replace the pot.

Tried everything you all said and couldnt find any problems/shorts/dry contacts etc. so I chopped the pot out, rewired with a new one and its fine now.

Thanks for all the advice anyhow.
