if these albums came out today how successful would they be....you all know they were impacted by the period of music when they were released...but if they were released in 2008 how successful would the albums be

Metallica- Metallica
Guns n Roses- Appetite for descruction
Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream
Nirvana - Nevermind

Alot of people keep saying that music was much better back then (like 15-20 years ago) than it is now....but some people say that there is a greater range of music to choose from now....

I never heard of that Guns N' Roses album....

I'm being a bitch..I know
Her friends are gazing on her,
And on her gaudy bier,
And weep!-oh! to dishonor
Dead beauty with a tear!
They loved her for her wealth-
And they hated her for her pride-
But she grew in feeble health,
And they love her-that she died.

people wouldnt know about them because they dont sound exactly the same as each other

You look suspicious - suspect niggas is bitches,

No, not at all.
At least, mainstream America (MTVeenagers, if you will) would never buy into it because:
1. They focus more on the music than the lyrics.
2. Not all the songs contain the words cars, money, and hoes

Yeah, you're a retard.
Soon you will sit on the bench
of those who deny I have my soul
You sell a dream you create
Condemned by what you condemned before
Smooth are the words you sing down and high
Underground is your joy your laws

People nowadays don't listen to lyrics or what songs mean. So if you listen to the song Master of Puppets you wouldn't think it was about a drug addiction, you'd think it was about some who would

Come Crawling faster
Obey your master
Your life burns faster
obey your master master.

They can't comprehend anything that isn't plain. It's like trying to talk to a post so they wouldn't get as much out of it as us older metalheads. Those albums would be trainwrecks nowadays.
#11
it would be the same considering that many bands have influences in those bands...

or maybe there would be other styles and this albums would not be successful.

sadly this is true. if it wasn't for UG i'd still be missing quite a bit of meaning on my rock records. Example-> even though i've always enjoyed master of puppets and such, it wasn't untill some great person here opened my eyes to the fact of what its really written about that i started truely paying attention to the lyrics and understand what they mean.
and if im not mistaken Sad but true by metallica is about alcoholism correct?

There was music that was bad 15-20 years ago and there was music that was good.

There is music that is good today and there is music that is bad.
My music teacher would probably argue that all the music today sucks, but I don't agree with that wholeheartedly.

Smashing pumpkins - uh...
Guns 'N' Roses - more than Nirvana less than Metallica

It would be so badass.

A lot of music just seems bad today because everyone feels like they have to fit into that "popular" thing. (I sound like my music teacher).

I know there's bands that I like that other people hate, but I'm not going along with what everyone else likes. Music is always changing, it's just something people have to deal with.
