patience is a skill I think that all guitarist need
the power to not jump around like Jimmy Page and the power to stay calm and play normally not to get attention

if you're that better replace him

LOL if he's better than him at lead playing, why isn't he the lead guitarist

Sounds like someone is jealous.

again, stupid.
patience has nothing to do with jumping around.
hes an energetic guy on stage...
if you stand around and do nothing like malcolm, you're boring.
i don't wanna pay to see people stand.

Metallica, James' Solos on Nothing else matters and master of puppets are awesome.

Btw, Malcom writes most of the riffs and prefers Rhythm to Lead because he likes getting drunk before shows.

its called "showmanship". it's the skill to not look like a deadbeat thats just standing there, playing. which is what malcolm looks like and why angus is hailed as a guitar god, because he put on one hell of a show.

their cover of Holy Diver being a prime example.

also, meshuggah.

their rythyms are much more difficult than solos. but, of course, both the lead and rythym guitarist have to play them

Yeah I agree about Metallica. Whenever James does solo he does a great job of it. Kirk's solos are usually generic and boring in my opinion.

Metallica for sure.

Also Coheed and Cambria. The lead and rhythm guitarists are equal, actually, and they trade off solos regularly.

That solo is actually a trade-off between adam and joel.

it is, there's a lesson on youtube where they walk through the solo. Joel plays the first part and adam plays the second i think.

I agree but to the metal elite it spans the gap between sucky emo-scene to "True Metal".

I like even softer stuff than that, mostly blues and jazz, but I'm just proving a point to the boneheads who hate on a7x and similar bands.

Quite frankly, you are a twat.

And what are you comparing here? Who's the better lead player; the rhythm guitarist or lead guitarist?
Or who's a better rhythm player; the rhythm guitarist or the lead guitarist?

A rhythm guitarist has their own duty in a band which is a lot different to a lead guitarist's - it's impossible to make a comparison without hearing them both do the same job.

I guess it's better when the singer is playing rhythm like Dave Grohl

why is that better?
Yeah it proves he's a talent musician to be able to play + sing simultaneously but that doesn't necessarily make him a better rhythm guitarist.

im surprised lots of people said metallica, James is very good but his solos are really...slow..., i like slow solos as much as anyone but once in a while Hammet releases awesome killer solos that make you realise why he's still in the band.
One is a good example, one of his best solos imo, and MOP is pretty cool as well.
I see you're not using the UG black theme

Hammets best solos are clearly found on Creeping Death and Damage Inc.

Hetfields stuff is awesome, it always seems to add that little bit more to a song, probably because it's not his "role", so it makes it a little different.

One cannot compare a RHYTHM guitarist to a LEAD guitarist, two completely different roles. Now if you take two guitarists who share both leads and rhythms, like Dave and Adrian from Maiden, then some sort of comparison can be made, but there again, no one is better than the other, it's just taste.

And about the Metallica debate, everyone likes Hetfield's solos 'cause he dosen't do 'em often and they add a contrast to Kirk's pentatonic's. But if James played solos on all 'tallica songs, there'd be a thousand threads on how much he sucks and can't change his style and ****.

Bang on.

It's not a debate about whether Rythm is better than Lead, or anything like that. It's more which bands rythm guitarists are better at playing the rythms than the lead guitarist is at playing the leads, as people tend to focus a lot more on lead guitarist as it's showier.

If you get me.

KSE don't technicly have a lead and Rhythm seeing as the only lead parts are fills, which aren't exactly representitive, he dosen't solo at all so they just have two rhythm.
#37
Joy Division. The lead guitarist was actually the bassist and the guitarist was the rthyhm section, and the singer provided the melody and the drummer kept an irregular beat...

Kinda a mixed up band tbh, but yeah
