Dude, I just snapped every one of my octave strings.

(just kidding, I stopped after I broke 1 of them)

fine, I don't even own one anymore

But it sounds like a cool idea.

I play my Dad's 12-string all the time, its awesome to play. Its so full and lush sounding. I'll go see if he'll let me try this.

well, i tuned the lower pitch strings in fifths and the higher just detuned the octaves a little bit so with a thumb pick i could pich chords on a single pair of strings and finger pick a melody with the upper three for a really creepy effect ill try to get a video or mp3 up of it

though you'd keep going out of scale while doing that no?

E - B
A - E
D - A
G - D
B - F#
E - B

that F# is awkward. and of course, if you try to play a Em scale on the high or low E
- W - H - W - W - H - W - W
E - F# - G - A - B - C - D - E
B - C - D - E - F# - G - A - B
- H - W - W - W - H - W - W

i mean, that's not playable at all.

that's why you dont tune the octaves up fifths but down fifths. and only on the lower strings.

I've done it a few times. It gives a very cool sound. Also, power chords are freaking huge sounding.
