Does anyone know any songs about war, but are more along the lines of Green Feilds of France or the verse in Something to Beleive in about the Vietnam vet? I was hoping to use one for a history assignment but something like Aces High by maiden doesnt really have that downside-of-war message.

Edwin Starr - War
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A.

Icing happen when de puck come down, BANG, you know,
before de oder guys, nobody dere, you know.
My arm go comme ça, den de game stop den start up.

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We will fight our country's battle
in the air, on land and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom,
And to keep our honor clean
We are proud to claim the title of
United States Marine

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
from dawn to setting sun.
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far off northern lands,
And in sunny tropic scenes,
You will find us always on the job
The United States Marines!

Here's to health to you and to our Corps,
Which we are proud to serve.
In many a strife we've fought for life,
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded by

Techno artist and rap producer in training

Sabaton, awesome swedish powermetal, has made 3 whole albums with lyrics about war, war and some more war. Primarily WW2, but there's surely something of interest there.

Some great ideas so far, thanks guys keep em coming.

Imo songs about the downsides of war are far more interesting than songs about glorious victory and stuff.

Ozzy made it about the Vietnam war, so its your go to song.

Actually, Geezer wrote the lyrics for pretty much all Sabbath songs.
But it about Veitnam, so is Fortunate Son by CCR ( I think )

Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones is associated with Nam' alot too.

I would recomend, "the diarist" album by Dark Lunacy, its about the siege of leningrad.
And Warbreed's "history undone" album, especially the songs Of glory and decay Part 1, 2,3 which are about hitlers rise and fall(suicide).
They might be a bit heavy for a school thing though.
^ Aye dont worry about heavyness, im asking just as much for my own enjoyment of the songs as i am for acedemic uses. I love pretty much any kind of music
'Isabella' by hendrix is another good Vietnam song.

'Wings Wetted Down' is an excellent and really creepy WWII song by Blue Oyster Cult

'ME 262' is another awesome WWII song by BOC
