somehow i have lost the ability to play my guitar, i can do hammer ons, but not pull offs, or any form of pull offs, or anything involving pulling my fingers backwards off a fret board(even while picking). has this ever happened to you, and if so can you fix it, and if it has how did you do it?

Go practice your instrument if you want to be able to play it. The only way you 'lose' abilities is by not honing them.

Dude I got these strings the other day that couldn't be tuned to higher than 4 octaves below middle C then I realized that they were shoelaces and they weren't making any sound at all.

Did this happen while you were playing, by chance? If you do the same repetitive motions over and over, your fingers will want to stay curled. Happened to me whenever I wanted to play Chevelle...

So I freaked out and flipped the vegetable tray.

How'd this happen? Did you take a break from guitar or something?

And to get it all back. Practice. Duh. That's how you got where you were in the first place.

i havent broken any fingers, it was fine yesterday, and ive practiced every day for 3 years, played for 4

Maybe you're just having a bad day. Or even sometimes if you try again 10 minutes later its all fixed

You might have better results in te Guitar FAQ forum but I would just say practice only pull-offs for about half an hour, then play a couple songs with a lot of pull-offs in them. It will get better in no time. For instance, my pinky is extremely weak. If I play a lot of songs that requires my pinky, it gradually gets better. Make sense?

Well I don't know about solos but how about that Smoke on the Water riff. It's like...impossible.

Whenever I have a day where a particular technique is giving me trouble, I spend an entire day practicing that technique. Up the neck, down the neck, different strings, alternating strings, I go nuts. Whip your fingers into shape and show em' who's boss.

It sounds like you might have some kind of injury, even the worst, out-of-practice guitarist should have the ability to do them.

It's a simple case of practicing. Barring some horrific hand/head injury, you just haven't been practicing. You may 'practice every day', but clearly you aren't practicing the technique in question or you woulden't be having the problem. ESPECIALLY after 3 years. Just work on your fundamentals. Don't cry to the pit when you can't do somthing, practice the s**t out of it until you can.
