I'm doing a school talent show in 2 weeks. I was thinking of playing Sweet Child of Mine on Electric guitar, but I would have to lug the amp over. They already have mics there, so they could just mic my guitar and I could sing or something.

The thing is, I don't know what song I should play. I was thinking if Yesterday was a good song to sing and play, but that's a mopey song about losing your gal, and I'm going steady with a girl. I was also thinking of Singing and playing We're gonna be friends by the White Stripes.

Any suggestions?

Just cause you sing the song doesn't mean you have to be a mopey guy that lost his girl. I'd say go for it.

How about the oh so cliche "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd. Easy and fun to play.
#5
Just play Hey There Delilah or I'm Yours, you'll probably do well since they are popular songs.

Mind you, I'm not joining to win. I'm joining to have fun. Playing a popular song to win instead of playing a song you want to play for fun is like selling out in a way.

I've always found that Spiral Architect by Black Sabbath works well on an acoustic guitar. The same goes for I'm One by The Who

The Who - Behind Blue Eyes
Rush - Time Stand Still
Elton John - Your Song (There's a version on UG that incorporates the piano melodies very well)

If all else fails, go with something from the Beatles' body of work.
