Okay so I know the modes for Gmaj. What is the pattern for Gmin?

For instance, if this is the 3rd for Gmaj:

G------------------------------------7--9
D-------------------------7--9--10
A-------------7--8--10--
E--7--8--10

Whats the 3rd of Gmin?

G---------------------------------3---5
D-----------------------3--5--6
A-------------3--5--6
E---3--5--6

Is it:

G---------------------------------6--8--9
D----------------------6--7--9
A--------------7--9--
E--7--9--10

A--------------6--8--
E--6--8--10

This is because, seeing as you're playing in the minor scale, your starting point is the Aeolian mode instead of the Ionian mode, because to find the relative minor scale of a major scale you start on the 6th degree instead of the 1st. You are playing using the 3rd degree of this scale as the starting point, which means, almost ironically, Ionian is your starting point. Therefore, you play the Ionian mode, using the minor third as your root note.

G Minor is: G A Bb C D Eb F
Which on your bass would be
G------------------------------------------
D--------------------3--5--------------
A-----------3--5--6----------------------
E--3--5--6---------------------------------

the 3rd of G would be the Ionian Scale which is Bb maj.
Bb C D Eb F G A

G-----------------------
D----------------5--7--8
A-------5--6--8
E--6--8

hope this helpt

First off your G minor scale is wrong after the first octave, I'm not too sure what the deal with that is.
And your phrygian (3rd of the major) should have an F# instead of natural.

But if you want the third mode of G minor just start on the third note of it and play up the scale til you reach the third again. That's basically how modes work. Ironically, this is just a major scale (Bb).

For future reference though, if you want a certain mode, let's say Lydian (4th), just play that scale starting on the 4th degree. You want the 5th mode, start on the 5th note.

Yes this helps a lot. Its not really my style, but "combining" the notes in these 2 scales sounds very metal. I have been jamming on the Gmaj so long, which sounds more like rock n' roll, that this is pretty cool to mess around with.

You played a major second then a minor second. Your minor second was incorrect.

G---------------------------------3---5
D-----------------------3--5--6 <---that "6" is a G# and it should be a "7"which is an A
A-------------3--5--6
E---3--5--6

The mode based around the third of Gm would be it's relative major so it'd be A major

Surely you mean Bb major? G minor is a flat key, A major a sharp key.
