So yeah, basically I'm still wondering what I should do about my pickups.

Currently using a Peavey XXX 212 Combo Amp and an ESP M-II EMG 81/81

So right now my battery is dead so I've decided to do something about it.

Should I buy an EMG 85 and do the 18v mod with 81/85.
Should I go with Dimarzios pickup? If so, throw me some ideas, I already have mine in head.
Should I go with SDs, heard they were good but never played them myself. If so, throw me ideas.

Thanks everyone.

E/Passive or Active, I don't mind at all.

E2/ Forgot to say, mostly melodic metal Firewind is pretty much my greatest influence.

the question is do you still actives waste money batteries or swap to passives. i'd personally swap to the passives and save money.

What type of music do you play? Im guessing alot of metallica lol

Honestly I would go with the 85 and 18v mod or a 60 and 18v if you need better cleans.

@Blacken, I don't mind passives or actives, I'm researching the best tone.

@Ibanez, Ah thanks, forgot to say. I'm playing mostly melodic metal or smoother metal. Don't like metallica so much no :P I just like the M-II model (Honestly I wanted an horizon but they were too expensive). Thanks for your input.

for best tone get passive pups over active since active do sound a bit sterile. dimarzio are great pups and i recommend the D-Sonic for the Bridge and Air Norton in the neck.

Save money?

I never thought the few bucks it took to buy a 9 volt battery every few months was such a heavy hit on one's wallet.

The 18v mod addresses most people's problems with sterility.

I'd say go for the 85 if you like them.

That was just a bump ...

I really need advices.

I'm thinking about going passive pickups sooo....

i swapped the EMGs out of my LTD for some passives and after like 4 months went back to the actives. once you do the 18v mod you'll like them better.
i used to be a mod, then i took an arrow in the knee.

You realize if you switch to passives, you have to completely replace the pots right?

Yes I'm aware of that.

That's why I'm still thinking about switching to passive or not. If not I might be going with SDs, but I never played them and don't know what model to get or whatnot.

I don't think I'll stick with the EMGs though. >.>

What are you on about!?

Most EMG sets last up to and around 3000hrs

Even with consistent playing and leaving the jack in occasionally - i remembered i got around 350hrs out of my Gilmour EMG set.

How will that impact on your wallet?
