Pheromone

A few words left in slumber
tucked in and under the crevice
of a tongue, rung out
and bed-ridden, the
purest intention that
never should have
been shaped into sound.

Fingertips
laced with a
caddish charisma,
parting to cover
the lips of lithe lover.
Movement as mechanical
as a jewellery
box dancer,
pir
ou
ette
after
pir
ou
ette...
Slight pause
until the music starts over.

She spreads the flood,
a solitary sidewinder
she slithers
alone.

Love Remembers

you can't forget what love was wearing
when it walked out your front door
where you fell down to your knees,
and can't forget the kind of suitcase
that was packed out on the sidewalk
while you cried there begging please,
but love remembers.

you can lie and tell yourself
you're over it
and someone else will take love's place
and this is for the best.
you can lay in that bed
in a stranger's arms
reaching for comfort,
close your eyes
and still get no rest.

'cause love remembers
the smell of a summer day
lying in a hammock over fresh cut grass
and the promise of forever.
yeah, love remembers
the sound of the pouring rain
beating down on the top of a car
on the side of the road
where it couldn't wait.

you might convince yourself
there's shelter in a bottle
for while there it might numb the pain.
but when it hits you, then it hits you
that love's still gone
and you'll be wishing
that you'd poured it down the drain.

'cause love remembers
the taste of cotton candy lip gloss
on the lips of a long kiss
and the plans they made together.
yeah, love remembers
to feel the fingertips
running through soaking wet hair
on the bank after a midnight swim.

love remembers.

He Stopped Loving Her Today

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good.

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today.

Chinese Finger Traps

I re-met Brittany today.
She told me I was a shower head that
made everything smell like piss.
Well, she didn't really;
but if she was poetic, she would have.
I found out she loved me once,
that time I held her hand in the theater
and listened to some under-rated scientist
prove to me that Darwin was Jesus (minus the bad-ass beard).
Yeah, apparently that was love and
I completely missed it; I didn't even know she liked me.

I helped Kelli with physics last week.
She proposed to me...
again.
Offered to break-up with her boyfriend and
**** me in the library if I would just say
"I love you" and mean it.
Her mom thinks we should get married and make baby Zach's.
Kelli told me she cries at night when she dreams of me.

My fiance tells me I lead those girls on.
That introducing me to their parents and friends and families
should have told me, "Hey! They like me."
But I was still too worried about getting my
circle circle dot dot's in;
since I was too socially awkward to build an immunity to cooties.
