I've heard the name around, but I'm not too sure what they're about.

Anybody care to explain
(perhaps their opinion on this brand)

Acoustic is in fact a brand of bass amps. They were big in the 60-70's then they disappeared then reappeared earlier this year when I believe guitar center bought them. They are really good sounding amps for the price, I'm actually going to purchase one (when I finally decide to spend money).

EDIT: /\ I don't think he was talking about Acoustic Image, but rather this http://www.guitarcenter.com/Acoustic1.gc

modern acoustic amps are very clear. the most notable of which is the AB50, which has dual inputs, a very nice sounding midrange, and a strong air to it unmatched by most other amps in it's price range, probably due to a well made tweeter.

also popular is the B200, a cheap, affordable small gigable amp with a 7 band equalizer. very good for the price. can be a 12 inch combo or a 15 inch short stack.

I wouldn't call what we have here on the Bass Forum a mentality. It's more like the sharing part of an AA meeting.

Yeah, I was looking at the B200 (though the ones I've seen are 115 and 6-band)
(also, the one I'm looking at has an effects loop and expansion room for another cab)

Clear as in clarity to sound? I quite like that
To compare, I do not like that 'Ampeg' tone (stereotyping it)

To those who still aren't sure, I am talking about Acoustic Amplification brand

yes 6 band. sorry.

to give you an example of what I mean by clarity, the notes are crisp and well heard, you know right away when you make a mistake, even with a muddy tone setting.

and most diehard vintage tone lovers are not so enamored with Acoustic amps (I remember a country bassist telling me the new Acoustic is very disappointing, and I believe Anarkee, though able to somewhat appreciate the tones of the Acoustic line, does not like the sound much)

but for a cheap modern tone (and don't get me wrong, with the right bass you can get a gorgeous vintage tone when neccessary, it's just modern is more easy on this amp) there isn't much that approaches the win that is Acoustic amps.
