I was reading this Japanese rock genre magazine today in the book store and it had an article on the top 50 best songs of this decade.
In the final 10, it had songs like Danny California, Take Me Out (Franz Ferdinand), Best of You, Rehab, and the first place was taken by...

Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes? What?

I know, it's a great song, one of the most simple but intresting riffs since Smoke on the Water, but why?
The song is... boring for me.

Do you agree?
Discuss.

When they say greatest song of the decade they mean THEIR favourite.. Or the one that sold the most.

There's no way to tell and all of these lists suck.
#6
What do the Japanese know? If it was the best techno songs their opinion might be valid.

I can guarantee that out of the top 50 songs of the decade, 50 will be utter crap

+1 to that as well

At least rehab was in the top 10.

A mesmeric melange of yearning voice, delicate piano and carefully chosen samples. ~Lost Voices

That shouldn't be number one.

Its the most boring, dry song I have heard and is butchered by every single person who has played a guitar for about 5 minutes.
Hardest button to button is much better

well that's total personal preference.
I mean, the list was basically for everyone.

The top ten did not have heavy metal, but St. Anger was somewhere around 14.

All of those songs you mentioned are awful.

I disagree, all the top ten songs were totally agreeable excellent songs.

"The Best" should have been #1.

After all, it's THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST ....

No really, every single top artist/song list is useless.

Yeah, I have to admit that I was one of the butcherers...

aww come on guys it might not be the best song of the decade but it's a classic example of Jack White's distinctive guitar sound and it DOES deserve credit because how many times have people complained about the lack of diversity in style this decade? and here we have something different and let's face it, i think we all can admit it's pretty cool no matter whether you only liked it for a few weeks.

im sorry but thats just rediculous. seven nation army is one of the most dry songs written.

It's a brilliant song but I don't think its the best of the decade. Certainly one of the best riffs in terms of memorability (if thats a word, firefox hasnt corrected it haha)

Franz Ferdinands song IS awesome though. I wouldn't be surprised if it was full of The Libertines and the Strokes either.

I agree somewhat. You will always see the 'top ten best vocalists' or 'top 100 rock icons'...and theres always somebody in there who everybody can agree is placed too high or too low. I think lists like these are stupid because its all a matter of opinion. I'm not going to put a blues guitarist at the top of my list because I listen to more metal music than I do blues. Doesn't mean that I don't respect them, just not my style.
#37
Don't get me wrong, I find Seven Nation Army to be likable enough, but to call it the best song of the decade is a hell of a stretch.

Also, pretty damn good Franz Ferdinand pick, but I'm much more fond of 40'. Just sayin'. Dani California seems pretty solid too.
There will probably be a signature here at some point.

Don't question it man, it's Japan. They've been pumping out S&M, sexual gameshows, bukkake and other weird **** ever since they got nuked.

Yeeees, I know, I was born and have been living there forever...

We haven't been pumping out S&M as much as American Porn, Sexual content is more restricted on TV than in the US or even Europe, and bukkake is... well you guys mimmicked us so who's talkin'
At least we outlaw gay and beastiality.
