i have a Vantage 818DT-1, dont bother googling it, i just spent the past hour and a half and to no avail.

just today, i bought some new trem springs and put them in.
i raised the action a touch and now the sound and feel is so much better than before.

but the pickups in it are real dodgey, (2 single, 1 humbucker) and i dont know whether i should save up lots for a new guitar, or just get new pickups.
im thinking i should just get new pickups, coz i love this guitar, and the fact that ive never seen anyone else with one, and i need to save my money, because i plan on travelling Europe when i finish school, and $1500+ on a guitar is $750 that i could save.

but if i do go with the pickup option, i dont know what pickups to get, and whether i should get them installed for me, or research and do it myself/get a friend to do it.
if i did get them professionally done (ie at a guitar shop), how much would it set me back?

i play hardcore and metal, if thats any help.

also, is there anyway to fix chips and **** that ive got on the head and body?

tl;dr
new pickups or new guitar
what pickups
diy or professionally replaced pickups

You dont know how old the guitar is? Like a guess, is it possible it was made in '81?

Also: Palindrome means you have to keep it

I looked on matsumoku's site and didn't see that model number in the catalogs. Pics would be amazingly helpful. Specifically full body and neck plate.

It's pretty. You should put them in yourself. What pickups would depend on what type of music you play.

Why don't you research bands you like and find out what pickups they use? I don't want to tell you a good pickup and it not be what you were looking for. This way it'll your fualt.

A quick google search reveals that Vantage guitars are Japanese. That guitar looks to be made in the '80s, I'd say between '84 and '88 or '89.

Sorry that these links are crap, but it's this or nothing.

sounds like this is a very good amp for practice, and i doubt EMGs will improve your tone any more than a new amp. If you think a new amp would be best have a look a Blackheart amps, they make a few small tube amps but sound great, esspecially for your type of music. Plus there about the same price as a set of EMGS

haha thanks.
i didnt actually find it per se, i got it as a present.
it was my uncles old guitar, and when he gave it to me for christmas it was in like a million pieces, $200 later and there was a lot of replacing to be done, but yeah, its good.

yeah, i use it for band prac, and it goes over the drums alright, but i use my bassists stack as well when shes not around, so that makes it sound a lot better. i just run the amp through the bass head and into the cab.

yeah, that was another option i had, and i think im gonna try and get my hands on a new amp, but as i said, that will take a while, as well as saving half of what i earn.

ill check out the blackhearts though, ive seen them around.
but if i get a new amp itll have to be a cab or largish combo, as my band has just started to play more gigs

blackhearts sell halfstacks for the same price as a set of EMGs.. If you can afford EMGs you can afford a blackheart and an amp would be first preference...
Also, i dont think its good for your amp to be running through another head and cab especially that its for bass...
