I was in a guitar store recently and I was talking to the guy who owns the place, who says that the worst part of his job is hearing every newbie guitarist come in and butcher popular songs.

So I thought I'd come here and work on a list with you guys of the top songs that should NOT be played in a guitar store, for the benefit of all those poor employees who face this every day.

And it's all well and good to say "if they're played well dot dot dot" but the chance of a newbie doing that is very low

Master Of Puppets
Back In Black
Smoke On The Water
Stairway To Heaven
Iron Man
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Sweet Child O' Mine
Paranoid
Eruption tapping solo
Enter Sandman
Cowboys From Hell

I feel bad looking at porn simply because of the ol' story that a lot of those girls were molested as children, But I've never heard of midgets being molested, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, as that's the only kind of porn I watch.

Why does it matter? You don't go to a guitar shop to show off, you go there to hear how guitars or amps sound.
The DNA results show that Jeremy Kyle is a nob.

they'd kill themselves actually tryin to play it

Man you've been here longer than I have(though only by a month) and I have to break this to you?! Sorry... but this has been done a lot. To answer your thread though you have pretty much nailed everything I hear people crying about new guitarists playing. Once again sorry to be the douche who had to point it out but better me being nice about than some other a$$.

He should cope with it instead of complaining. It's part of the job and we all know this thing can never be eliminated.

The sad thing is that that's not true for most people who go into a guitar shop

Well i'm sorry almighty music elititst, where do you get off telling people what should and should not be played, yeah some people may not like bands like that, he some may even hate them but who are they to tell others what to listen to. I'm sure you are one of those people who hates door knocking religious groups trying to force their religions on you, or telemarketers trying to force their products on you so who are you to force your taste on others. Hypocrite.

Any song featured on guitar hero. No I'm sorry, any song you learned how to play because of guitar hero. Especially if your younger, it makes everyone your age look bad.

Does it matter? GH probably has some advanced songs, you've still learned to play it on a real instrument.

I actually have a collection I've songs I knew before GH came out. Now when I play something around people I get obnoxious "I CAN PLAY THAT ON GUITAR HERO..ON EXPERT". Plus it's dumbing up American kids thinking they can play an instrument because of a video game.

i have a shop by me where the staff play stairway when they demonstrate guitars to beginners - their reasoning is "beginners come in wanting a cheap acoustic guitar to learn on and go for a nylon string classical most of the time, and none of us are classical guitarists so we just play stairway because it's the closest thing to classical music that any of us know".
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.
#28
This is stupid. If some beginner guitar player only knows a few riffs (like smoke on the water) and wants to try out an amp or a guitar, just live with it. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I'd bet my house that plenty of people posting here learned one of the songs on the list as their first song. Just give it a rest.

That's excluding a lot of good songs, I don't agree with that.

I say you just don't play songs. A couple of riffs and a lead run will give you a general idea about an amp.

You're definitely loitering around if you start blaring songs all willy nilly.

Smoke on the water.
and as of yesterday, Jingle Bells.
This kid who looked about 16 played jingle bells over and over, lots of mistakes the entire time I was in the store...and the amp was LOUD

This is a retarded thread - if you're in a shop to buy a guitar then you play whatever the hell you want.

Oh, and if you're in a guitar store to show off to your buddies and dick around piss of, it's not a youth club.

I'm so sorry that people aren't of the required standard to "perform" in your local guitar store but it's got f*ck all to do with you.
