When you rent or buy an album, and you don't like it, you get tempted to leave it alone and not listen to it.
But in order to gain value from whatever you sacrificed to get the album, you hesitantly put a couple of songs in your playlist.

What are the bands and artists that you tried to like but you still don't.
You just don't want to admit that you actually don't like their music.

For me, it was U2, Radiohead, and Fleetwood Mac.

I rented U2's 18 Singles album, and I only have three songs that I actually could make myself listen to.

My friend rented me three radiohead albums, and it just sits in my iPod and I never listen to them.

Fleetwood Mac, which I don't hate, but I just can't motivate myself to listen to Rumors.

at first i sort of forced myself to like some thrash and death metal thinking it was cool but soon enough i loved it. same with jazz and classical.

I didn't quite like A Matter Of Life And Death when I first heard it. Sounded too slow and dull for a Maiden album. I made myself listen to it a few times and now I love it
#5
definitely U2, also I did that with Dashboard, but I started liking them a bit more because The Swiss Army Romance is a great easy acoustic cd to learn.

I try not to force myself to do pety things that I dont want to, such as listen to a certain musical artist that I dont like.
#7
Older Dissection I guess, I thought Reinkaos was vastly superior, but gave the older records some listens, and they are good. They really are.
#8
The problem is that all those bands suck, dont freaking listen to a band that you cant get into!
#9
I actually forced myself to like Queens of the Stone Age and White Stripes.

It took time, but now I love them.

i gave an honest effort to listen to country music, because a few of my friends were really into it, but i ultimately i just can't stand it. all they do is sing about the same **** over and over again, and even some really gay stuff......international harvester?? could you get any more stupid than that for a country song?? i rest my case.

God, I agree with you a lot.
For me it was Radiohead, Linkin Park, Maroon 5, and Busted.

I still think they all suck, and at one point I tried to listen to them but never liked them.

I was expecially disappointed by Radiohead and maroon 5.

It kind of showed that I listen to the hardest heaviest music in my class.

I forced myself to give Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and The Doors a second try after I listened to them when I was younger. Nowadays they are all amongst my favorite bands.
sometimes I see us in a cymbal splash or in the sound of a car crash

Our preferences change over time

I found myself listening to an old Beatles record in my iPod after I got sick of hip hop

I tried to force myself to listen to Muse because EVERYONE tells me they're one of the best bands around right now, but I can't find any good songs whatsoever. I listened to every song from their new album, but to me they're all really strung out and not catchy, and the guy's voice is more of a lullaby than rock singing, so eventually I just gave up
#23
Sometimes I didn't get it the first time, but quickly grew to like it, like with Chimaira. It seemed a bit primitive compared to other metal, but I quite like it now.

Although usually, if I like it, I'll notice straight away.

Everyone kept raving about Iron Maiden that I tried to get into them to get everyone to shut the hell up..

I just think it's lame as hell for some reason.
#27
tool but now i love em

pink floyd i had to force myself to like the regular parts but i instantly fell in love with the high parts of songs (solos)

Rap i used to listen to tons of underground/old school (early 90s) rap but I can't force myself to listen to the new mainstream or even teh NEW so called UNDERGROUND it seems now that is becoming mainstream also.

I like all different kinds of music, my tastes have mellowed since I was 13 when I was militantly against a lot of different kinds of music for no reason.

I remember the first time I ever saw a GN'R vid and this guy was like yeah, you must like GN'R right?

An' I was like no, they're teh gayz

2 weeks later I realised that they were the best ****ing rock n' roll band in the universe.

I listen to things a few times to see if they grow on me usually. Oh and if I buy a CD, I put it on my iPod immediately, so it doesn't come off unless I get really sick of it. Often I'll end up ignoring something for a while then it'll come up on shuffle and I'll think "Hm, this isn't that bad" and get more into it.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

Confused? Good.

Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Metallica, Most of that older stuff. The thing is, i heard theyre great bands and will like a song or two, but nothing new comes out so i have to sit there and force myself to find all their good stuff, and usually aquier a taste down the road.

I feel bad looking at porn simply because of the ol' story that a lot of those girls were molested as children, But I've never heard of midgets being molested, so it doesn't matter to me anymore, as that's the only kind of porn I watch.

None. Why on earth would you force yourself to like music? How would you even do that...I can't imagine anything happening other than every time you listen to it you sit there thinking "...it's no good, I still don't like it..."

I must be the only one here who isn't a complete music critic. I love everything and give anything a try. A good song is a good song regarless of what genre it is or what band it is.
I cant see why you would force yourself to listen to something against your own will. Odd odd people.
#36
Not a case of "forced" a case of "realization" that I liked it !..

a few bands to note and people to note. Satriani, Slipknot, Trivium, John Mayer, Alter Bridge, Eminem, Dre, Malmsteen, Radiohead !

Wow nice talking... This is exactly what I think. You like it or you don't, no matter the genre or band. Genre shouldn't exist. A lot of people miss a lot of things because they just say it's not their genre...

When you listen to a complex piece of music it is easy to be overwhelmed; it takes many listens to take it all in.
Every listen reveals new details and the song grows on you.
