Put in Vista. And ruin yourself.
I'd advise XP because 1Gb of ram under XP is equivalent to like 2Gb's of ram running Vista.
Whats a sig?

I will eventually be putting in another 2 gigs of ram, and adding another velociraptor for raid 0. But I have a $1000 budget so its this for now.

Also I already have all components and accessories, both vista ultimate and XP Pro. as well has a 20in monitor, wireless mouse and keyboard, usb mic, and logitech 5.1 sound system.

This PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004
It's more than enough and it has a single big 12v rail, which is better than having a bunch of small ones. And Corsair PSU's are the best.

VeloicRaptors aren't worth it. They will only help with loading times, not with the in-game performance. This is much better for the same price.

No it's not. Vista will be fine.

thanks for the suggestions. Im not sure 550w will be enough to run everything plus peripherals.

Also there is no way I would need 1 teribyte so that would be a waste for me. Maybe two smaller drives that I can raid?

I've found a 3gb ram upgrade for mine for £15...
It's not that expensive, shop around.

Stay with Vista. It's fine. Support for XP will be discontinued, and in another two years or less, you'll be getting more RAM anyway, so a small deficit in ram doesn't mean much.
#10
Go with the suggested Corsair power supply above and keep the Raptor especially if your going to eventually run Raid 0. 2 gigs of DDR3 RAM is fine, now if it was DDR2 I would suggest 4 gigs.

edit: If your going to spend 50 dollars on a cpu cooler you might as well get a Zalman

I've used the vendetta 2 on a previous build and its worked out great for me. Which one do you refer to?

also will the 550w be enough power??

The minimum is 500 so yes you will be fine as long as you won't be running crossfire. I would go with this personally because it has a lot of amps over the rail.

dump the logitec. weak as hell. get something closer to 500 watts rms with a powered 12 inch woofer

^ my friend has that cooler, I just hate how it looks to be honest.

also we seem to get the same results with identical processors

naw, my 5.1 is fine its the 530 system i believe it sounds great, and is perfect for my desk and apartment.

Also I'd rather not have to get a new PSU when I upgrade my video card in a year or two, does corsair have some "future proof" psu's so to speak?
#18
^ for games, yes. I have another 7200 RPM drive for everything storage and music. Not to mention I will be getting another for raid 0 in the next 6 -12 months

ahhh ****, i thought it was a ddr3 compatible board. Thanks for the catch.

Is it worth gettin a DDR3 board?

Don't get Velociraptors.

And there's a cheap 2x2GB G.Skills kit on Newegg.

...modes and scales are still useless.

lol why the hell would i go nvidia?

would it be worth it to wait until the new processors come out?

also I heard a rumor that ati is releasing new series of cards in the next six months?

Actually it's more like 1:4.

256mb ram is minimum to run XP and 1 GB ram is minimum for Vista.

The Core i7's are out but the cheapest is nearly 300$ and I haven't heard of anything but they more than likely will come out with new cards.

Personally I would go with the Intel 8500 dual core unless you are going to be video encoding, graphic editing, or any of that sort of stuff. If your going to be playing games a higher clocked dual core may be your best bet here.

No. The 4870 owns. I am playing Crysis at 45fps average on high with my 4850 that only cost $138.

Never wait for new hardware to come out because there will always be something new on it's way.
