ok the standard bit rate for 128kbps, for my guitar recordings how can i bump that up to cd quality of 256kbps or even 320kbps, or if theres another program that will allow me with higher quality recording, and i am willing to pay money, thx for help

Well, you can output higher quality in Audacity if you open the project, select a higher bitrate under Preferences, then save as mp3 again. Updating the LAME encoder may improve quality too.

Otherwise, once it's encoded as an mp3, it can never get better. There's no program out there that can do that.

Record as a 24-bit wav at 44.1khz. That is the best compromise for quality vs. performance vs. disk space. Generally, only bats can tell the difference between anything recorded at anything higher.
