I need some good Jazz artists to listen to, since I need to basically force feed the **** out of myself so I can take Jazz in college (not that I don't like Jazz, I just need to get used to it). Preferably heavy guitar oriented stuff that can really impress me (like, my favorite players are Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci) and not to much on other instruments (like Sax stuff, I'm not really interested).

Oh and also, preferably instrumental only.

Oh and I'm open to some blues stuff to (is SRV considered blues?).

Thanks.

ok

A)there are large stickied posts with plenty of information on Jazz and Blues artists.

B)go to pandora.com and use that to find new artists

C)guitarists are great, but you won't become a very good musician if you don't listen to anything else

D)listen to Joe Pass http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yI-1sq5dFD4

maybe go to fusion first like john mclaughlin, mahavishnu orchestra, al di meola, return to forvever.
the older you do get the more rules they're gonna try to get you to follow. You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N.

Yes Stevie Ray Vaughan is considered blues. Actually, he is a modern blues icon. Some people say that he reinvented blues. So if you want to turn to blues and you like SRV, you're in the right way.
