muddy, inversatile, and with the pickups working, it sounds like a really bad quality Mustang mixed with a bad EB-0.

a P-bass fits most of the music that thing's used for much better anyway.

What you must remember is that Hofners were just cheap starter instruments, Macca only bought one because they were cheap.

Well I normally play guitar and I would like to learn bass also, but don't want an expensive one, yet

a Squier VM P-Bass isnt terribly expensive.

neither is an Ibanez GSR200.

they both can whip that Hofner in no time.

There was a recent thread on this btw..but I'll say it again, thumpy and not in a good way. In a rubberband across a cardboard box kinda way.

ya know, I tried one of those cardboard box uprights, it sounded better than a hofner.

rubber band across a cardboard box> Hofner bass

Oh, plus its more fun to jam on, and you can pull a Pete Townsend on it and not care, because you know its only a Kleenex box, a paper towel roll, and 4 rubber bands.

If you want a good AV get something like Norton 360

Do you agree with that guy? That's why we have the Computer Thread. Use it.

I had to bump this thread

I have a Hofner Icon Series Bass, and I must say..I love the sound that it gets.

well, I am the most avid hater of them.

with my usual bassy bass+ high mid boost, they sound like muddy farts.

I'm no expert..but for my personal pleasure I got a good, creepyish tone out of it. I have an Ashdown Electric Blue amp, was only 230 used and with some of the playing around I've done I have a sound that I like. But hell, that's just me.

Many people this side of the pond started out on Hofners in the late 50s early 60s as they were affordable, you could pick up a Hofner Bass for around $65USD £35GBP whereas Fender Precision started at over $200USD £125GB

Hofners weren't bad value for the price paid.
