^^ thats about the current exchange rate eh?
anywho...

so the guitar im customising has a bit of a history of abuse.
its a Samick Les Paul copy, and I got it off my uncle about a year ago, it worked ok, but was not in the best of condition.
seeings as i already had a guitar, i never played it.
so i decided to make it into a fretless:

before-

after, but without strings-

kinda like guitar hero eh?
well, it looked cool, but played like crap, so i just left it.
today i was looking through all the 100GBP builds and thought "hellz yeah"

so i completely took it apart, and im yet to figure out exactly what im gonna do to it, but ill figure it out as i go.

first thing to go was the paint.
dad was in bed, so i sanded it by hand. it took me 2 and a half hours to do the back of it.

later dad told me he wouldnt have woken up if id used the electric sander...
so tomorrow hopefully ill do that.

anyone have any ideas on what sorta paint job to do?

aha!
also, i was thinking about doing 2 major changes to the body, but i figured id ask your opinion:

1) (its very likely ill do this) the horn on the bottom of the cutaway, i was gonna sand/cut/whatevs it so its like, bevelled i think is the right word?

2) (maybz) cut a cutaway into the other side to make it kind of like a sg...
ive always loved the look of sg's, and i was thinking about getting an sg junior, but if i do this i wont have too!

so far, spent $0 out of $226

I would do this too, but i've already spent $380 for my RG build and i havent got any hardware yet! Just gotta wait for the wood to arrive.

Looking pretty good so far too!
Do really bright paint, or white with all black hardware.

Will you be plugging up the 3 way switch cavity and placing the switch in the cavity with the pots? Looks good by the way. I think it'll look pretty sweet with the double cut like you've ps'ed.

thants actually not a bad idea, i was wondering how i was gonna do it.
but i wanna see if theres a way to get rid of the switch completely. just remove it from the circuit, but keep both humbuckers fully working. i never use the switch anyway, and i like things simple

I can understand that. Me though, I've gotta have a switch unless it's a single pickup guitar lol If you wanted to get rid of the switch all together maybe you could use push/pull potentiometers so that you can still have the switching options without the 3 way switch.
#16
i dont even want to have the switchyness thing, and im no good at wiring and stuff, so i wouldnt have a clue how to put the push pull ones it.
i just need to figure out how to complete the circuit without the switch

Seymour duncan wiring diagrams are really easy to follow. I was on there earlier looking at the Jimmy Page style wiring (which uses push/pulls) and started drooling...one day maybe.

Edit: nvm the duncan wiring diagrams wouldn't help lol I guess I should read better next time.

as for what type of wood it is, it's plywood. look at the layers in the tummy carve.

Would taking the wires from the switch and simply soldering them together work? It would get rid of the switch for sure, not sure if it would have an effect on the pots though.

yeah, i looked at it closely and when the switch is in the middle, the 3 wires are joined, so im just gonna join all the wires

Wiring isn't that hard if you think your way through it. It's something easy, if I had my Les Paul copy with me I could probably figure it out. Do your pickups have 4 colored wires and a bare, or just one and a bare wire?

i dunno anymore...
i just decided that ill rewire the whole thing, as you said, its not that hard if you think it through.
so im trying to find some wiring diagrams for 2 passive humbuckers, and one volume knob and thats it.
maybe a tone knob if i cant find any with only one knob

Yes, do that last, its looking nice. I think is maple.

You must have some switch, sounds really change from neck to bridge. In the neck pickup is very difficult for pinch harmonic to sound strong, in the bridge its a piece of cake

Neck sounds more mellow, fat. Bridge is more crisp, harsh.

yeah i know what you mean, but i wnt a mix of both, and i have no need for pinch harmonics, and i want it to be as simple as possible

aha, maple!
thanks

If thats what you like, then do it.

Pinch Harmonics are just an example, lots of songs require changing pickups, but depends on what style your playing. I guess you could manage with a GOOD tone pot

ive pretty much finished the cutaway, except i need to plug the hole in the back where the switch used to be still, and then i can sand it down fully and stain it.
ive noticed that there are some bits that are lighter where ive sanded a bit too hard, is there anyway to get rid of them, or will they not show up too much once ive sanded it?

ive decided that it would be too hard to make the guitar look good with a natural finish, so i bought spray paint yesterday and ive done an undercoat and several white coats, so my total spent is $22 out of $226.

i have black and white paint, and i want to do something original, but simple

so far my ideas are checkered-

or white with big black lightning bolts.

if anyone has any ideas at all, they would be appreciated

yeah, my mate said that he didnt like the checkered, and the more i look at it the more i agree.
the lightning bolt idea (in my head) looks kinda like tiger stripes, going all the way across the guitar, about 2 or 3 of em

so, ive come up with 2 very different ideas of how to paint it.
the lightning bolt idea: (sorry bout the dodgy pic, i scanned it off a scrap piece of paper)

or, hawaiian shirt style: (hawaiian shirts are kinda my thing, also, this is just a rough pic)

If you aren't going to have 4 knobs then you should fill all the holes you dont need before you paint further. I don't think it would be maple. Few companies make any bodies completely of maple and I doubt sammick would make a cheap LP copy out of such a bright sounding wood that is generally a bit more expensive.

im gonna leave the holes in case i want to change the wiring later on, and they dont bother me too much being there
