What does it mean when a guitar player has a "cult following"among other musicians? And is that a good thing?
#3
^That's right for the most part. It's usually a good thing. It helps threaten other musicians

Cult: followers of an exclusive system of religious beliefs and practices.

I'd assume you fit a musician in there somewhere, and there is your answer...

...unless I'm totally missing the point...

It means they have a small but dedicated group of fans. It depends on how exactly you define a "good thing"; I think it would be pretty cool to have a cult following but these things don't tend to mean much in the way of financial gain.

If anything has a cult following it means that while it is not exceptionally popular with the mainstream, there are some people that absolutely love it.

I guess that's a good thing since nowadays people think if you're mainstream you're doing it wrong. Even though that's a bull**** stereotype.

from what ive been told it means they're not very popular, but the fans are very devoted fans.

They might be popular but not really in the mainstream sense, but, yes, their fans are extremely devoted.

Dime is the complete opposite of cult.
