hey UG, i have an old guitar neck and im bored and wanna make it thin, is this a waste of time or is it possible to an extent?

sanding will take some time, I'm assuming it's maple, so it's gonna be pretty tough to work... but if you knew somehow how deep the truss channel was, you could use a spokeshave and rasps if you wanted.

Yeah you definatly have to find out exactly how deep the truss rod is before doing anything,

But thinning it is fine, dont go overboard you dont want the neck to bow beyond the control of the trussrod, and you will have to re finish it.
