I am wondering what amps i should be looking at for some Death Metal.

Necrophagist, Behemoth, Decrepit Birth would be the tonal area i would love to touch on.

obviously there is the Engl Powerball and Bogner Uberschall.

what else should i look for?

my funds go up to around 2,500.

P.S. - It would be awesome if the amps could get a nice shred tone as well, this would only be an extra though, as my laney can get a pretty nice "shreddy" tone

I swear by my 6505+, I picked it over various Mesas and an ENGL Powerball

Other good choices are the Dual Rectifier, Diezel VH4 and the Randall Modular amps.
Check out Diamond amps too

eh, i kind of want to stay away from the 6505's. I mean they are great, but i just feel there sound is becoming a bit too staple and its a tad noisey for my tastes hahaha

Diezel does look good though.

as well as Splawn of course lol

I know Suicide Silence & Winds of Plague use Carvin's. I'm assuming V3's?

There's a guy over at Harmony-Central right now selling 2 Diezel Herberts for $2800 a piece if you can stretch your budget, amazing amps.

All my suggestions are based on used prices. You can easily get a UL for $2500.

The Nitro is an awesome amp, I just traded mine about a month ago. I'd still have it if used prices hadn't plummeted about $300.

Too bad you didn't check ebay last week. A 2 year old Soldano SLO 100 in mint condition went for $1875.
I'd be looking on ebay if you want killer deals. I bought 3 high-end amps on ebay with no problems.
Good luck.

Also, like MatrixClaw suggested above, those $2800 Diezel Herberts sound like a great deal for what you need.

You'll be very hard pressed to find a used VH4 for any less than $3000. $2800 for a Herbert is almost unheard of. Einstein's regularly go for under $2500 though.

Riffhog makes an interesting point though. SLO's are going way cheap right now (compared to this time a year ago, at least) and are some of the best built high gain amps in the world.

load of options... for $2500, i'd be looking at the savage or SE, though, not the powerball (though you might prefer the powerball).

vht, soldano, brunetti, bogner, etc. etc. etc. it's just really a matter of trying everything you can, and trying to narrow it down at least a little. which can be hard if there are no good dealers near you, and even if there are, it's unlikely that they'll stock everything...

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

I'd say the Savage SE too, especially for Necrophagist tones. Muhammad uses them, with Vader cabs.

But yeah do as Dave says, especially with that much money...

Ill jump in with a personal biased opinion and say that the Diezel Herbert amp is the best high end high gain amp there is, its ridiculously, unbelievably good, its embarrassing playing it side by side with most amps.

At the end of the day you should go with what YOU really, really want though, because otherwise you'll always be pining after something else!!
Diezel, Motherfucker

Splawn and ENGL are way up there. Check out the Randall MTS series (yes, I'm a ***** for them, and have recommended them to a ****load of people now, but for good reason XD)

RM100 for death metal: Ultra XL or 1086 modules for death metal, 1086, Ultra Lead, or Mr. Scary for shred tones, and whatever clean module you want (unless you don't use clean, then find another high gain module you like and stick it in).
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"
