I am doing an essay for engilsh, and I need to know:
What is the more sophisticated name for words such as 'his' or 'him'?

There's no replacement for them. You're supposed to use those words. Trying to replace them will just make your essay look pretentious, because it's so obviously forced.
Don't f*ck with the language, millions of people used it before you did, and if it was good enough for them...
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O
O O O O O O O O O O

I dont mean synonyms (sp?). More like a word you can group them under, sort of like a street name can be classified as a noun (I think).

My God, I'm going to fail English aren't I?

EDIT - It's a poetry essay and we have to comment on methods.
