Ok so i'm about to change the strings [on my peavey cirrus bxp 4-string], and the fingers-style bridge gives me the option of either string-thru or top load; will it make a difference in the tone or playability or whatever?

i play all kinds of rock, so really just everything, if that helps

The general popular theory is that by going string through you gain more resonance and sustain. To my ears the difference in sustain and resonance is not major, but it is noticable on some level.
#3
go string through, everyone likes a free tone improvement.

Try it both ways and see if you can hear a difference, then report back.

I did that when I started uni. I borrowed some from the maintenance staff if I remember correctly.

Nail clippers ought to do just fine as a replacement (as long as they're rather sturdy).
I got in everyone's hostile little face. Yes, these are bruises from fighting. Yes, I'm comfortable with that. I am enlightened.

I once tried it to see how long it took without wire cutters

took 10 extra minutes.

I spend about 20 looking for wire cutters.

until my Dad organizes his tools, I may just forget about cutting.

I'm assuming humanity cut the strings by bending them back and forth a bunch. Try that TS. I've done it before. Takes time but it works.

seriously just bend the strings back and forth a lot then with them at a 90 degree angle spin the bent part until the core breaks.

if the strings have the red stuff on them the bending method won't work really. forgot to mention that.

EDIT: nice smiley placement humanity.

RE-EDIT: The more string is wrapped around the tuning peg the better the string will stay in tune. While this has it's limits and humanity's is probably well past the limit just remember don't cut the strings too short. it should wrap all the way around at least a couple times for best results.

explains why it stayed so well in tune. I figured it had something to do with that.
