This one's for Mat and someone else. (Ignore the gimmick part if you don't like it.)

“pearl jam”

The man of the hour has taken his final bow, good-bye for now…

i.

fear i felt as i stepped
into the house where
i would face it again,
promised that it was
a good movie. she did
warn me, told me to
come with water wings,
i don’t know how to
swim in these kinds
of things. i wondered
how bad i’d choke and
drown.

”good-bye for now”

ii.

1.
the tall tale of the titan fish,
the river,
and the road along the way

along the skyway from Paris, earth
retold hold down deep by the swamp
he met Death, in a dare,
on it’s front door—
told him how he’d die.
from a glass Eye.
(he didn’t know that when it came
it would still be a surprise.)

on his bed he told us the rest of his life.
about a small town conquered.
how he escaped with a giant.
about how he became lost in
a haunted forest, and danced
with the Spectres.
and promised Death’s daughter
something she’d never—
not even when she’s dead.
at circus he found
the love of his life
(stand still time
fast-forward, rewind)
and … her. lost

he died in a war
and won her back
alive.

I found a suspicious letter
from one of the Spectres.
I went and met Death’s daughter,
now Dead, and how he brought
her town back to life.
and how She loved him.

2.
returning home
him at the hospital
big fish in bed
asked me how he’d die
told him I dunno
told me to try…

get out of the way!
it was then we broke loose,
bats outta hell and high water
flood the hospital.
we’ll make our escape.
god damn nurses
get out of the way!
in to the car and
out on the road way,
dodging danger.
on down to the river!
(and everyone was cheering
as we carried on toward
victory,
for God, for Glory
for King, for Country,
our finest final hour ahead)

”they say the biggest fish in the river
gets that way by never being caught…”

the story of my life…

iii.

i choked and
i drowned.
(begin rolling credits)
but no tears came out.
and i stared it straight
in the face, couldn’t
think straight, either way,
i had it beat.

though,
i was losing myself again
following the rusted signs
down the broken seams
You paved along the way

You’re a tidal wave
a snowflake in May,
ruling in long division,
Man of the hour.

i hope You know
that You’re a big fish.
that You alone
have taught me how
to swim.

”The man of the hour
has taken
his final bow,

good-bye for now…”

Wow. I think you just proved why you won WotM. That was amazing. Your pieces always have such a life and breath to them, a rhythm and flow that's enviable and this deep, pulsing dirve. Ths was no different. Loved it, loved it, loved it

I am really glad you posted this. I think I'm being accurate when I say this is my new all time favourite from you.

Thanks a whole lot, bro.

I really enjoyed the Big Fish movie. It had so much poetic folklore themes in it, and you took some of the most profound moments of it and made it beautiful and made it your own. I can't really critique this. I feel like you did a fantastic job. Awesome! (I think it was you who also used that Ben Gibbard line so perfectly in another piece, but I could be wrong).

edit: This wasn't a critique, so don't worry about looking for anything of mine. It was my pleasure to comment on something as spectacular as this.

The lyrics aren't bad at all. kind of over rated, but still good.
