The definition of androgynous is a person that has both male and female characteristics.

I'm talking about the singing in this situation.
When the 70's emerged, Robert Plant shocked the world and took the US by storm with his screaming and high pitched voice.
An androgynous voice is when a man sings with a high pitched or a woman-like voice
Obviously, many of the high pitched male singers since were in some way influenced by Plant.

I'll list briefly the ones that I could think of off the top of my head:

Robert Plant
Ian Gillian
David Coverdale
Steven Tyler
Bon Scott
Brian Johnson
Paul Stanley
Geddy Lee
Sting
Jon Bon Jovi
Sammy Hagar
Axel Rose
and Jack White

Personally, I think high pitched singing defined hard rock for the 20th century.

Who is your favorite?
Feel free to add more if you think there are some missing, I just have the globally successful bands.

I choose either Jon Bon Jovi's powerful vocals or Robert Plant.

I guess so, when it's expressed with aggression.

I don't think any of those could be mistaken for a female singer.

I've got a Loverboy album though, and their singer sometimes sounds scarily like Tina Turner.

LMAO...

Yes he does, I felt it too...

I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

Matt Bellamy, Thom Yorke etc. don't technically have androgynous voices - all the high parts are sung in falsetto and they cannot hit the high notes of a tenor (or higher) in full chest voice.

I can't think of any men that sound like women, but I thought the singer from Madder Mortem was a man.

Thom Yorke, Matt Bellamy, and Beck are probably my favourite singers that can achieve insanely high registers.

Not one of my favourites, but listen to Anthony Green sing. He sounds like a girl most of the time, but it works.
